Oil for 72 Corvette

It was neat looking through the manual several posts up. I figured a 350 from '72 would have a much bigger sump. And I didn't realize 5W-20 existed back then.

If you use the larger truck filter it adds an extra .5 qt. They do offer a 2 qt filter,ph373 but a vette is too low for that.

As another poster had stated I would use Mobil 1 full synthetic. For the 71 350 engine a 10-30 would work well. I would do a drain and fill with a less expensive synthetic and change it after 100 miles or less since it sounds as if the car is somewhat neglected. When you change it put in the good Mobil 1 with a Fram Ultra quality filter.

I don't know if you're still looking for recommendations, but I used and really like Drivens GP-1 racing oil. I was using the 15w40 in several flat tappet V8s. Just another option.

I'd run at a minimum 10w-40, or a 5w-40. The cooling system may be in rough shape too.

The older vettes always ran a little hot

Some form of Xw-40 Euro or HDEO for the zinc on the assumption it is a flat tappet cam.
