Pennie wise - pound foolish.

..and you intend to buy this truck?? Here. You do what you're doing ..I'll give you $100 over what the boss sells it to you for. If the prices that you're inferring are true, then buying a LONG BLOCK wouldn't be out of hand in the final value of the thing.

..and you're debating the cost of oil???? Change it once a week and still feel like you're making out like a bandit.

I HIGHLY recommend that you just step back a foot or two and view this from the outside. Your boss has rubbed off on you way too much. Cheap is good to a certain point, but not to the point that you're throwing away opportunity.

..The prices are true, you can stop by your local Napa, they'll tell you how much they sell the trucks for.

These trucks are rough though, after 3 years of service, they're beat down pretty hard, they usually don't make it 4 years.
I've yet to see any of these trucks last over 100k w/o them just being...defeated. The motor may still be good, heck there may not even be any leaks, but they're just gone. They're driven too hard.

The ranger has a slipping trans. and the boss put PS fluid instead of type FA so i'm sure it's on the way out too. It's missing a side view mirror, theres dots of rust on the bed from battery acid, the tail gate takes a few tries to keep shut, it almost caused me to spill a huge barrel of Purple Power degreaser, the suspensions shot and it needs a detailing..but man, she blows cold AC and is Comfy as can be! Theres a reason these trucks get sold so cheap.. I just want a cheap truck i can have some fun in..something w/ an Autmatic transmission for when i'm too lazy. something to play in the dirt with..I want to buy it as a beater..something i can tear apart when i have nothing else to do.
It's a pretty easy motor to work on, i can overhaul the trans and motor in less than 2 hours, probably less than an hour if I do it at school, but i don't intend on doing anything like that. When it dies, it dies.

About the summer comment, i think the heat got to me

I'm going to say 10k OCIs.

G man, i want advice, really do. But i seriously believe a 20 weight just isn't appropriate for this type of driving and I haven't seen anything special about penzoil yellow bottle.. I mean, maxlife has it's PAO, rotella and Delo are HDEO, what is special about Pennzoil dino? Please, inform me.

You just rambled on about how this truck looks great and is running great under these severe conditions and that it only gets 5W-20 in it. Why are you so quick to change the routine? You said it yourself that the cap is clean. It sounds like you are looking for others to validate your insistence on using a HDMO.

Ford specs this oil...I'd use it. But I'm not sure you want to hear that. Use what you want. Like G-Man said, you're going to anyway.

If those domestic trucks are so great then why are they worn to nothing in less than 100,000 miles? that changes nothing from my perspective

But you still cant find 15 minutes to change the oil every 3000-5000 miles on this truck?

I think he answered that by stating that they are SEVERELY abused and neglected yet. They run all day, every day and still make it to 100K. Most of that is obviously short trips where the truck is constantly being abused by the driver.

Besides, I don't think anyone is trying to change your perspective. I'm sure you're perfectly fine with you import truck.

I disagree about the severity of the service. Being run all day doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing - It means less start-up wear, which is where most wear occurs.

I drive the living heck out this car, always peddle to the metal, ac on..over curbs the occasional slide around i always seem to find near shops..and much more.

I'm sure since these trucks are being "operated" by kids, calling the service they are in as severe is being nice.

They are being hammered on.

Let me put it this way..If VW made the truck we use, it wouldn't start every other morning..If honda made it, our deliveries would be late, if Toyota made it, over steer and body roll would get us killed.

The amount of shear abuse, and neglect, the word i want to use is trauma.
All we give these things is gas and tires.

It takes me more than 15 minutes to change oil..I've got to get to work, BEFORE i start work, AND while school is still open, then take the truck to school, which is another 15 minutes, do the oil change, clean up and put the tools back where they belong, drive home, get in my uniform, have a beer, spare 20 minutes to run it through my system, and drive back to work.
It will take me a bit more than an hour, and come october, I will be a full time student working 6 days 35 hour work week. Between homework, the girl and Halo 3 my time will be very limited, i won't have an hour or 2 to spend doing an oil change, and he's not going to take the truck to a shop unless it's got a problem.

I'm happy with the rotella. if a 5w20 NAPA lasted that long under those conditions, i'm sure the 15w40 will do as well or better.
Personally, i think the whole 5w20 is b/s. I think it's for gas mileage..I probably won't run that weight an any car myself or my family members own. What will a 5/20 shear down to?

it usually takes me a little longer to swap, as in put another one back in, but i can usually take the trans on a RWD out in less than an hour if i've got a lift and a tool chest behind me.

Just seems like excuses to me. But that is why they are called opinions and they do vary!

I have never worked for a parts delivery service so I have no idea what the routine is like but I still think you can find time to change out the oil, even if it is at the end of the day every so often right there in the parking lot at the shop, even if it is just draining the oil and changing out the filter every couple of oil changes, still better than expecting the oil to last 25K miles between oil changes or when someone mentions "uh, i think we need an oil change".

The Rotella 15w40 should do ok, if big rigs can go 50-150K miles between oil changes (with bypass filters) , you can probably safely go 10K easily.

If you can only find time to do a 25K mile oil change or when you think about it, how will you find time to do 10K intervals?

excuse me?
When you go to a restauraunt, you have a decent meal, you have a beer. By the time you get your check, pay, and leave the restauraunt, you are well within your BAC.

Now, i'm a 200lb male. I have a beer, few slices of pizza while i'm at it. by the time i wash my hands, put on my uniform, and head out the house, it's been around 20, 25 minutes.
I would have no impairment at all. I would be within legal limits.
Sorry, i don't recall you giving me any advice, just flame.

I have a 2002 3 liter ranger, now the clean steel plate your are seeing is a full splash shield which covers the inside of the valve cover, why is it so shiny, well i will tell you, the only oil that ever touches this plate is the fresh oil being dumped in. The way its positioned inside the valve cover makes it impossible for oil in side the engine to reach it. So it stays clean and varnish, sludge free.

I just refreshed my memory by reading your first post again. I should have done this before posting anyways the inside of your engine does not look sooo clean like you think it does that splash shield is giving you false hope my friend.

Do you get a lunch break or always on the go and eat in the truck on way to deliveries? If you do get a lunch break then 10K miles or so, 15 minutes to drain the oil, refill you are good to go. How difficult is that?
