Ahh...I was mistaken.

I was thinking about the GM Ecotec 2.2L 4-cyl and the BMW models. On these vehicles, the canister is easily accessible via the hood compartment...no need to crawl underneath nor remove any panels.

Is that a GC tutu?

As to Vad's post, I am now running Kendall synthetic in my Scion (not by choice, but by situation) and I actually am liking it. Time will tell as I only have 800 miles on it so far.

Nobody can say that changing a filter every oil change hurts and I'm 100% sure it doesn't.
It might be slightly better when used for a few miles, but in no way can I believe that over the life of one vs two filters, the two filter method would prove better, overall.

I think everyone's points have been fairly made. Just to add, for the point of demonstration, I have a 2006 Acura. I dumped the FF at 2500 miles, sorta early, and am doing 2 5000 mile runs on Havoline Synth + Havoline 5w-20 using the SAME P1 filter. That's according to mfg "Severe" recommendations. Will my car suffer even minimally from re-using (if that word even applies) the high-quality filter? Not at all. I'll even cut it open for the nay-sayers. One added benefit I have is that I run some Delo 30 through the engine to clean and clear it inbetween changes. Any total accumulation of under 10,000 miles with a good filter is no worry. For extractor pump owners or people with difficult filters AND for sludge-makers, fluid-only changes are cost-effective. Heck, make-up a dollar-based OC budget and I bet it can be tweeked for the best with alternating fluid-only services.

I want to concede that my assertion to go 5000/10,000 might have been in haste. I do defend the fact that the practice of doing double-duty with the filter is generally harmless and definately underrated. In this case, the filter unit might be the weak link as the contaminate levels were described by knowledgable members. If I caused any confusion on the part of the original poster, I apologize. I can still say that although I "approve" of the practice and would do it myself, even on a TOYOTA. However, giving that as advice is another matter that carries the responsability of deeper knowledge and experience that I don't have in this case.

Well that's a fine post, A-U.

If you had had the humbled tone to begin with, I think you'd have gotten a lot less slack and more of a discussion.

Hey wait, I bet you use your ketchup twice, don't you?

That IS350 has a new engine design, doesn't it? Direct injection and some other stuff. Anyone know if the block is the same as the previous gen V6?

I would do syn (pick your favorite) with 7500mi OCI and change the filter every time. I would also do a UOA on the first oil change.
