These days it is easy to swop between various filters and other OEM filters as some people do.If the car is used for normal commute there might not be any problems ever. However if it is a high performance engine that gets taken to the red line a lot one should keep the intake flow to the filter at least the same or better than the OEM filter. You can calculate the area of one hole and multiply by the amount of holes for the total area. Most of the time 6 large holes equates to slightly more area than 8 smaller holes and 5 large holes is quite a bit less than 8 small holes. The thicker the oil the bigger the problem will be.One can easily fit for eg. a Hyundai 26300 35503 filter on say a Honda s2000.They look exactly the same and fit perfectly but the Hyundai one only has 5 large holes compared to 6.So you might have a problem at high RPM.Don't be tempted by price or ease of getting hold of any filter without looking what you are putting onto your engine.
