I like to know who buying an automotive oil filter from Lowe’s or Home Depot.
I do often. They are cheaper than the auto parts stores . Those filters are $10 @ autozone. Walmart is a 45 min drive through stupid traffic 1 way so I rarely go there
Home Depot didn't carry the filters I needed. But they had Rotella T6 5W40 in stock for a dollar a gallon more than WalMart. And I didn't have to drive 40ish miles to go to the closest WalMart that regularly carries it.
Yeah, seems non traditional to be selling them but I can see it being a "while I am here" add on purchase for both the residential consumer and contractors.

Lowes is cheaper than Walmart for some models (e.g., PH10575 which is $6.xx at Walmart but $4.xx at Lowes). Most others are about $.25 more at lowes. If I'm at lowes and need a filter I grab one, but both stores are less than a mile from my house so I don't need to make a special trip.

Sounds like an excuse to go to Lowes...
I bought all the 9688s in Fayetteville when they went on clearance a while back. Hit like 3 Lowe's and got ~10 filters for a buck each.
I see I may of hurt some feeling with what I said. Sorry to all. BUT I going to said even at 2 dollar i would not install one on my cars cardboard end cap no sir.
My Home Depot only carries the PH line of Fram which has to low of efficiency for me to even consider. But its efficiency is higher than a lot of more expensive filters.
The Orange Can Of Delight is good enough for me, and millions of other cars on the road.
I wonder how many they sell annually?
Turns out ph3980 fits my wife's car as it's a 18x1.5mm thread.
I found some 2016 OCD last year on some Kubota diesel engines that had up to 800hrs on them. If the OCD was going to fail, that would have made them fail.
Contractors and construction crews treat everything bought there as a business expense. An auditor isn't going to check if an oil filter bought there even fits work equipment, let alone verify that is what the oil and filter were used for.
