Yep when rankings and aggregate quality come into play it becomes opinion. Much like “value”.The following needs to be expressly understood ...
This thread in no way reflects an official BITOG statement on quality or anything else presented therein.
The quantification and qualification rankings are a matter of the OPs opinion, and nothing else.
No problem, glad to make the change. You have it labeled as "Quality & Cost" so I'm saying it can go either way. I'm saying that 0.82 with 1.5% more efficiency COULD be deemed superior over cost since you are weighting both options.
So it may read better if it shows "Cost & Quality" rather than "Quality & Cost". Splitting hairs yes but when I look at a graph, and since you're putting cost first, then the words represent more of the cost coming first than the second based on your statements.
Thanks!
Very good . . . thank you.The following needs to be expressly understood ...

I looked up the definition of both and I agree with you performance is better suited for the heading, thank you. I'll make the change. The first section in the table named "Quality" is really the "Performance" factors. Quality is more focused on the physical build of the product, which can be seen differently by different people.
You're right. I've tried to find info but it is not there with the same amount given from the manufacturers.Would be some blank boxes in that row since lots of that table info about performance isn't even available for OEM filters.
Right on. I got a similar feedback from another member and made the changes. Thank you!Splitting hairs ... @20u is close enough since 20.000000001 is basically 20.Either way, it basically means the same thing to filter nerds, but "greater than" 20u is actually the way ISO 4548-12 describes it and probably more "accurate".
Because of the valleyADBV would be “silicone”, not silicon. Silicon would seal very poorly.
The filters chosen are the brand of the manufacturer that have a website with product specifications and information on construction. Others can be added if the specs are available. If you have a filter you'd like added please share a link to a site and I'll add it.How did you choose the filters that are currently in the table? I would like to see more filters in the table.
To make the comparisons consistent could you share a site that has the SuperTech filter specifications and construction and I'll add it. Thank you! While this is a thorough analysis, the long term difference between any of those filters will not be measurable. At 5-7k oci, it makes no difference as long as it does not tear. I'd add Supertech in the mix, the filters only cost around $3 and do 95% at 30 microns.
I don't know how long they've been marketing oil filters but I know they've been marketing their oil additives for a long time. One of their oil filters for my truck seems to have good specs (99%@20). I think Autozone or AdvanceAuto sells their oil filters so they are out there.STP oil filters. Seems to be an absence of comment on the quality of this brand on this forum. Appear to be made by Champion, but not sure if Champion makes some of the more popular brand(s). Anybody?
Reason I ask is there are frequent deals that bundle 5-quart containers of various motor oils (Valvoline, Mobil 1) plus an STP filter to fit your vehicle. Hard to overlook, given the inflated oil pricing these days.
AZ's STP OFs have gone through different manufacturers. Started with Champ Labs, then moved to what looked to be Premium Guard in the XL, some China maker for blue can. Now they all appear to be back to Champ Labs made. The XL is most like the current Super Tech MP series with silicone adbv. Blue can most like the Super Tech ST series with nitrile adbv. In speculation, I'll go as far as saying Super Tech OF same as equivalent STP oil filters, but for significantly less cost. ST rated 99%@30um.STP oil filters.
