I bought a John Deere model 125 at Lowes last month, love the machine. The oil filters for it cost 9.52 at Lowes, is there another filter that would fit? Thanks Dennis.

Get your JD filter number and cross reference it at the WIX (aka NAPA, Carquest)website.
Are you sure the model number is 125. WIX shows that as having an Izuzu engine and that they don't market a lube filter for that application.
Surprising, but my local JD dealer sells oil filters at a price equal or lower than NAPA. Check your's out.

On my L118 I use the wix 51516 or a motorcraft FL400 and it is half the price of the oem and is twice the size.

Yep, I use the napa gold equiv of the FL400 on my 20hp kohler command. Go with a shorter filter if you dont have the room for a FL400.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check out the Motorcraft and Napa filters. The 125 has a 20 hp B&S V twin, nice engine.

I had a MTD 17 horse Briggs and Stratton engine
blow after 6 years. It was a IC engine and I took
care of it. I chaged the oil 3 times a season.
It did not have the pressured oil and oil filter.

ST3614- sometimes a FL400-S is too long to fit (at least it won't on my LT160)
I have a 125 22hp twin V engine by briggs and stratton. Briggs makes a standard oil filter for $9 and an extended quality filter for $11. The prices at Lowes and Walmart are identical for both filters.

The lighter duty tufftorq transaxles used on the JD line seem to be more reliable than the light duty hydro-gear trans used on the MTD and cub cadet 1000 series. You dont hear of many problems with the tufftorqs. The JD 100's are light duty machines. Excellent smooth terrian grass cutters. If you need to pull anything, climb hills, have a ROUGH lawn, you need to spend more than $2K for a reliable rider.

I checked prices and I was looking at 1000 dollars for and engine. I bought the John Deere
135 Automatic at a tractor dealer last night.
Love the way it mows. I bought an JD oil filter
also. JD said to change the oil after 8 hours of
break in for the first change. The JD filter was
$6.13 at the dealer.
