Hi Fellows, had a look at the OEM oil filter cartridge and found it to be of not good quality IMO. Lexus recommends changing it every 16,000 Kms (10,000 miles).

Do any of you know of a "Better" quality unit, as IMO the OEM doesn't look like it would last that long. Or my impression was wrong and it would last for that mileage.

I must admit that I was surprised at how cheap it looked!

I have used the Toyota OEM for 12,000km with no issue and it held up well and it costs me $6. I have also used the Mobil 1 filters and bought them on sale for $10. I haven't used the Fram Ultras in cartridge form.

Toyota OEM bad quality? I've used plenty of their canisters in the '13 RX in my sig, all seemed to be excellent and I'll gladly continue to use them.

actually i dont know the criteria of good oil filter media but i always use toyota oem filter and i dont see any strange point of bad with it.

can someone explain it?

I use the OEM cartridge filter on my Camry for 10k OCIs and couldn't be happier with their performance.

I just ran a oem Toyota to 12k. Not even a hit of poor quality. Posted here in the filter section.

I think this is the first thread I've read where someone was critical of the Toyota OEM filter.

Aside from the unknown efficiency, there is a lot to like about OEM. When I had my 2011 RX 350, the OEM always looked good after 5000 miles.

I'm not sure where you would find a better alternative. Basing it on looks isn't the way to go...efficiency is what matters. Maybe look at a Purolator Classic if you can get your hands on one in Ontario. If not, stick with OEM.

I'd trust a OEM Toyota filter. There's reports here the FU cartridge won't work.

Supposedly, Mahle makes an Austrian-made filter for the newer Toyota canisters.

Mahle is the best choice.

When you're out-of warranty, and want to extend your OCI, then Wix XP would become a good choice

I want to thank you all! You've put my mind at ease. I don't know the quality of the cartridge, it just looked cheap, but after your comments I'll be using it.

There is another Toyota sold filter, the TRD. It is a little more expensive but has synthetic media and end caps. It is likely the same or close to a Royal Purple element. Sold by Toyota it would have a Toyota warranty. A dealer should have those or can order. I sort of like the open flow no end cap design of the standard Toyota Denso filter.

I just took a Toyota OEM cartridge out at 17,540 miles, and I agree. I have little doubt it could've made it through another 9000 miles, unlike most of the aftermarket substitutes I've seen.

Thank you Goodtimes, exactly what I was looking for! Will purchase the TRD filter.
