Looking for a decent filter for my friend's 2012 Mazda3 Skyactiv. I'll be changing the oil next week.

Fram recommends XG6607 for skyactiv engines (XG3604 for non-skyactiv), don't know why they recommend different oil filter, but I know that it is a really small filter. I am leaning towards XG7317, which is also recommended for Hondas, but I'm not really sure if it's safe to use.

Any input would be appreciated.

Dan.

The relief valve pressure is the exact same for the 6607 and 7317 13 psi. Thread size is 20 by 1.5 for both has well. So it would be just fine to run the 7317.

Only question is whether car is still under warranty?? If so then I would rather run the specd filter size. Even though the parameters are the exact same. No need in taking chances if something remotely weird were to happen.

I have 14 skyactive maz3.

I am sticking to OE filter because I keep reading that the pressures are higher than average filters and fram is going to make one size fits most model...

Only non OE filter made specifically for skyactive is Wix 57002.

In most cases it will be fine, but while in warranty i am sticking to OE. I was able to get a pack of 5 shipped for 7 bucks a piece from avondale mazda on amazon.

Running a 7317 instead of a 6607 myself.

No problems, if it fits, it sits...

Same base, same bypass, same bat channel...

The car is out of warranty.

By the way, I only consider Fram because that's the only decent aftermarket oil filter readily available at Walmart and Canadian tire.

I also only stick with the OEM filter on my sky2.0 solid construction and good price.
