oil filter change in a v6 caddy cts

my son just got a caddy cts with 3.6 v6 and i see it has a cartridge thpe oil filter. has anyone here changed one.? it appears oil would run out all over when removing it.i have not looked at the engine yet but manual shows it mounted vertical and when you remove the case it looks like the oil would be able to run out.

You change the filter when you change the oil, so once you drain the oil, the oil filter housing will be very near empty.


most filters drain a little oil, once the oil has allready draind from the drain plug.

Did one recently at work and the guy pulled the filter first and the oil drains down into the engine just fine and then drained the oil to get all out. No real mess problem at all. Actually less messy then horizontal mounted traditional cans.
