It only removed a little less than 4 quarts... About half the sump. Easy to identify visually. Pulling the drain plug confirmed.
Then how does the dipstick give you an accurate reading?
What year is your ride? Im curious to see the shape of the pan.
They dont work on some rigs for sure - my onan 8000 genset being one.
I have to side with you here. If an o-ring / rubber seal is not deformed or otherwise damaged, it is safe to reuse.
What if it sticks to the block but is otherwise not deformed?
The dipstick only needs to reach the top 3/4” of oil... I did not try the smallest tube, maybe I will next time.
The VR6 dipstick tube is a big curve. I suspect the tube is hitting a baffle or something.
I couldn't get more than a quart out of my 911 with the extractor...
Pull it off and stick in the groove on the filter.
any filter or manufacturer you know recommend this practice?
I always ask because sometimes they simply wont work regardless.
I'll loan mine out before a friend buys one just to see if they work on his cars.
Many oil pans dont have at the bolt in the lowest part of the pan and the extractor actually does better than a plug pull. Ken Bergsma has a quick vid,

My Touareg is as you describe. The extractor reaches the bottom of the pan; the drain plug threads are slightly higher.
I get it, just dont see the juice being with worth the squeeze - if its coming off its getting a new one.

In the Touareg, it does pull more. I do 5k oil, 10k oil + filter.
In the Atlas, the tube won't hit the bottom of the pan.
Im multi taking poorly - I conflated the two vehicles
(new covid rules just dropped at work and my phone is ringing off the hook)
Just personal experience with numerous infrequently driven cars, like 500 miles in 2 years, where I've changed the oil and drained out the filter. Oil had turned from clear to caramel so I wanted to change it, but with 500 miles on the filter, there was no reason to replace it. Never had any leaks.
Filter manufacturers are in business to sell filters. Of course they wouldn't recommend it.

I "try" to never reuse gaskets as a rule.
The only type I feel comfortable reusing are the pure copper ones I can heat up and quench.
I did most of that when I was a kid and the extra few dollars was a big deal.
This is a very common cause of "filters leaking" - Gasket sticks and the new filter ends up double gasketed because the guy that removed the filter didnt look.
Quick lube places yes. Most people here know to look at the removed filter.
