$230 Audi RS4 Oil Changes?

That's a bit of a stretch I think...

Many MB's use 9qts sumps and are cheaper to do a dealer oil change.

An oil extractor makes it soooo much easier...

an oil extractor is a perfectly fine way to do an oil change, especially with a car that has a cartridge filter mounted on the upper side of the engine. One gentleman earlier in the thread asked if an oil extractor would remove the metal shavings in the oil. Whatever shavings remaining in the oil after numerous passes through the oil filter will not be removed by the extractor. The extractor will remove the oil with the "shavings" if any get by the filter, suspended within the lubricant. I used an oil extractor on the two VW TDI's I've owned as well as on the Mercedes E320CDI I recently sold. The Mercedes dealer wants in excess of $150 to do an oil change on my SL500 (8 quarts of Mobil 1 0w-40, a special "fleece" oil filter at $28 and I presume .5 to 1 hour of labor @$120 per hour). Fleet Filter sells the filter (a MANN filter inside the NAPAGOLD box) for $7.50, I was able to get the Mobil 1 at a bit less than $6 about a year ago, but I am still at about $60 plus my time to do the change-so I don't believe the dealer charges are excessive. The OCI on this car is a year or 13,000 miles so I change the oil each spring. I will do the change myself this year, but wouldn't hesitate to get a dealer change if the circumstances warranted. There is an independant garage near me that advertises $13.95 oil changes including the filter and oil. For my Civic, I might go there, pay him his $14 and have him use my MC 5w-20 and NAPAGOLD filter-it is still a bargain.

$230 sounds about right. My Audi dealer was charging me like $10 for an OC, lol.

Tim, based on what do you accept the above claims as facts?

1. An RS4 is a highly complex piece of machinery. Compare to equally complex models of other makes. Not all Audis are that difficult to work on.

2. "high maintenance" is relative, considering complexity

3. I'm never sure what "refinement" has to do with it. Somebody please define the meaning of refinement in this context.

My friend had an A8 and his OC was almost $200 and that was over 5 years ago.

In Evo Magazine (UK) they charged 215 Pounds for oil (only) for their long term RS4...although it was covered under warentee...

Audi includes free maintenace for the aforementioned period.
