Do you have some documentation on that?
Do you have evidence they are?
Does a single filter manufacturer recommend the procedure you are performing?
Does a single owners manual recommend it?

It only removed a little less than 4 quarts... About half the sump. Easy to identify visually. Pulling the drain plug confirmed.Curious..how have you determined it does any worse than a drain plug pull?
Then how does the dipstick give you an accurate reading? It only removed a little less than 4 quarts... About half the sump. Easy to identify visually. Pulling the drain plug confirmed.
I have to side with you here. If an o-ring / rubber seal is not deformed or otherwise damaged, it is safe to reuse.Do you have some documentation on that?

The dipstick only needs to reach the top 3/4” of oil... I did not try the smallest tube, maybe I will next time. Then how does the dipstick give you an accurate reading?
What year is your ride? Im curious to see the shape of the pan.
They dont work on some rigs for sure - my onan 8000 genset being one.
Pull it off and stick in the groove on the filter. What if it sticks to the block but is otherwise not deformed?

The VR6 dipstick tube is a big curve. I suspect the tube is hitting a baffle or something.
I couldn't get more than a quart out of my 911 with the extractor...
Nope. Don't really care, either.any filter or manufacturer you know recommend this practice?
Nope. Don't really care, either.
My Touareg is as you describe. The extractor reaches the bottom of the pan; the drain plug threads are slightly higher.
In the Touareg, it does pull more. I do 5k oil, 10k oil + filter.I get it, just dont see the juice being with worth the squeeze - if its coming off its getting a new one.
hmm should pull more..

In the Atlas, the tube won't hit the bottom of the pan.
Just personal experience with numerous infrequently driven cars, like 500 miles in 2 years, where I've changed the oil and drained out the filter. Oil had turned from clear to caramel so I wanted to change it, but with 500 miles on the filter, there was no reason to replace it. Never had any leaks.Do you have evidence they are?

Seriously? What if it sticks to the block but is otherwise not deformed?

Filter manufacturers are in business to sell filters. Of course they wouldn't recommend it.
Owners manuals are written by car manufacturers who want to sell you parts and service. Of course they wouldn't recommend it.
Seriously?
