154K?? Love to see the used oil analysis on that one

I have that engine in my 2002 F-150 and have been doing 5,000+ mile OCI's with Motorcraft 5W-20 and my used oil analysis was just fine. Plenty of life left in the oil and not bad wear metal showing up in the oil. 5,000 miles on the highway should be an absolute piece of cake for this engine and oil

. My miles are a mix of real local, secondary roads and some highway.

If in warranty, remember to not exceed Ford's "standard duty" oil change interval, which was 5K last time I checked.
Otherwise, 7500 highway miles in any good-running 4.6 with ANY API SM motor oil will work.
Beyong 7500 miles, you may wish to change out, as the additive packs in non-synthetic, non-diesel-oriented, non-high-mileage motor oils start to wear out somehwere past there.

^^^what they all said^^^

MC 5W-20 is an excellent oil and will easily handle 5K. After all, it's what Ford puts in the car at the factory, and they tell you you can go 5K for normal-duty service, which means "a lot of highway driving".

One possible catch to this: what filter are you using? If it's the Motorcraft FL820S, then relax and forget about it...

Yes it the Motorcraft FL820S.Thats all i use.

It gets about 26mpg on the highway on regular which is all i use.Thats with the a/c on as i never ever shut it off as i can't stand driving with the windows down no matter what the weather.

I'll figure out the cost after i get back.I don't want to think about that now.I figure it will be at least 3 bucks a gallon for regular the whole way or more.Regular here now is 2.89 and going up everday without fail.

I'm sure down in Miami you need the A/C all year round.

My grandparents live on Sunrise, FL (Broward)....and when I was down there to visit...

I was sweating my *** off

Just came off a 7k mile run cross country run with my 4.6 Vic.Most was speed 70mph or higher and some was stop and go city traffic. The a/c was never off.

To my surprise the 5w20 Motorcraft held up just fine and didn't burn a drop.It was still at full at 5k and not dirty looking at all.At 5k my friend changed it out and put in Castrol Blend with A Motorcraft filter. With only 2k on the Castrol its still clean looking but its just off the full mark unlike the Motorcraft which stayed on full.

The bottom line here is the 5w20 held up much better than i ever thought.I have no intentions of going to a higher grade at this time.

My last 4.6 was a 99 and i used 5w30 conventional and i had to add 1 quart if i wanted go the 5k like i did with this one with the same type of driving.

Standard Ford service interval now is 5000 Miles there are some ways to get back to severe service but not nearly as prevelant as it was before. 5K and forget about it.

I never thought i'd fell comfortable with 5k service esp.with 5w20 oil even though its a blend. But now i do.Even in this Miami heat and nightmare traffic.

I put 10K on Exxon 5W20 + LC in a Ford Duratec, followed that up with a Schaeffers UOA and received advice from the lab to continue with current oil change interval.
