I would like to know if anyone here can explain why large OTR diesel trucks generally have considerably longer oil drains than passenger car vehicles. Even on petroleum oil, many fleets go 20-30,000 miles between oil changes. Why is that? How can they go so long.

Larger sump, better filtration, better temperature control of the oil (may be a product of #1).

In cars with long drain intervals (>10,000 miles), the oil capacity is usually in the 7~8 quart range.
