Oil Change - does type matter?

15w40 conventional is good stuff... itll do well, just be sure that your engine isnt consuming oil at any sort of fast rate... or there goes your emissions system (though dont euro cars come without catalytic converters?).

All the (gas) cars sold in the EU have catalysts, as far as i know. The car doesn't burn that much oil, and if it does, this means that the OCI has gone too far. So, from what I gather from the discussion so far HDEO should be fine. Would any of the more experienced members make a suggestion as far as what the OCI should be? The "severe" interval is at 3750 miles if I remember correctly, and with the current usage this is stretching some synthetics... what would be safe for dino?

I had a Subaru once, an 89 GL wagon. Easiest oil change I've ever had. The filter was right at the lower front of the engine and could be easily reached without jacking the car up. Ditto for the drain plug, which was just a little further back. I just layed down on the ground, with a flashlight or shop light, and had the drain plug and filter off in a matter of seconds.

I am not familiar with the design of the newer Subarus, so the above may not apply in your case. But even the most poorly placed filters I've run into aren't really that bad, just a little messy sometimes.
