The engine is bone stock. Factory recommendation is 5w-30 but I live in Alabama where temps get well over 95. 5w-30 Castrol GTX seemed to be thinning out so I went up to 10w40.

Is this safe or should I go back to manufacturer's specifications?

Other question, would you recommend synthetic or conventional for this type of setup?

What motor oil (synthetic/conventional) have the best shear rating and wear protection?

I have been looking at Valvoline Synpower, Valvoline Maxlife full synthetic, and Castrol Edge. (I've ran conventional Castrol GTX since I first got the car)

What's the best oil filter to use for this application? I've been running K&N Wrench off premium filters since day 1.

Hello Turbo GSR -- Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 5W-30 would be a good choice for your VTEC Integra. If you are worried about higher temperatures and/or “thinning out,” then we would recommend a synthetic over conventional motor oil since they tend to deal with heat much better and can maintain viscosity better than a conventional motor oil. Hope this info helps! – The Pennzoil Team

I don't agree that going against the factory engineers by going to a 40wt oil is the best thing to do. My Mazda CX7 turbo also speced 5w30 and my UOAs were great using PP. Why do some of us think we are the fountain of knowledge when it comes to over-ruling the factory engineers? Ed
