Oil and filter recommendations for cars

We have an 08 Nissan Rogue and a 2005 Honda accord v6.

Would like some recommendations on oil and filters. I want to take the best possible care of these and plan on oci's of 7500, and 5000 on the accord (it has a rough ride).

I planned on using Pennzoil Ultra or Mobil 1 Extended Performance, tilting toward PU.

PU is probably the better of the 2.
OE filters aren't worth the money on Hondas, because they basically get an orange Fram in a blue package, and the Nissan filters are just cheap filters from China.

Purolater is a good choice for an oil filter.

For oil changes that short you could save a few bucks and use Quaker State Synthetic "ultimate durability" or whatever syn oil and filter is on sale. I have run the Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Ultra up to 15k miles with no issues.

On the Accord, run Pennzoil Ultra with a Purolator PureOne, Purolator Synthetic, Or Bosch Distance+ for 7500 miles.

For the Nissan run the same for whatever the "Normal" OCI is. Probably 7500 miles

What engine is in your Rogue? The QR25DE? I've run Valvoline SynPower, Castrol EDGE, Pennzoil Ultra, G-OIL, and (currently) Royal Purple in my Altima Couple. It has liked them all and 7500 mile intervals is certainly doable with any of them.

What engine is in your Accord? 4 or 6 cylinder?

Why run less than 10K mile OCI's? I drove my 89 Accord quite aggressively, reaching redline daily, with 10K OCI's. 5K on synthetic oil is what I would call wasting money and resources.

I would recommend Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 for the Accord with a Pureone filter. I'm using the same combo in the wife's '07 with the 3.0 litre v-6. The sixes tend to be a little harder on oil than the 2.4, so I would stick with a 5000 mile OCI until you do a used oil analysis. Honda has two filters for almost all their engines. The ones with serial numbers ending in A01 are made by Filtech and are very good. The ones ending with serial number A02 are made by Fram, but they are not the basic Orange Can of Death. They are constructed similarly to the Fram Toughguard (the "middle of the line" filter) and are built to Honda standards. There are better filters, but I wouldn't worry if you use them. I use A01s or Pureones, but I have occasionally used the A02 without incident. Enjoy your cars. Thanks.

In general, Honda engines are pretty easy on oil. If you're going to use a good synthetic you can easily go 7500, assuming the engine is in good running condition. Get a used oil analysis and increase from there.

I see a lot of these "harder on oil" comments in various posts. I am not sure if this is just an excuse for premature oil changes. In my experience there is no reason for a 5K oil change using synthetics. Just because we CAN waste our money and resources does not mean we SHOULD. I wonder how many people will keep their cars as long as I kept my last one. I used the 10,000 mile OCI confidently, without oil analysis.

Come on folks! Why spend the money on synthetic oil just to dump it after the same interval that current conventional oils can run?

Americans really ARE a wasteful people!

Depends. Engine design, state of tune, driver, conditions, etc., are but some of the variables.

My car calls for 3000 mile oil changes with synthetic oil. It's due to fuel dilution.

Without an oil analysis you just don't know.

Somehow I doubt that either of the cars at the top of this require 5K OC's on synthetic. My Accord had over 350,000 miles on the engine. It had a cast iron block and solid rockers with no rollers. But, I think the time has come for me to shut up about OCI's.

I say PP it is very good all around oil and easy to get. And of course a pure-one filter.......
