Oh oh, more Ultra drama

But the media description didn't carry over ... that's my point. If the Titanium was kicked off by Trico from the get-go, why didn't they use the same media description as the OG Ultra at that time if it was the same exact media? Fram never refered to the OG Ultra as "synthetic blend", anywhere ... so how could that media description carry over to the Titanium?

Or just an assumption? I'm pretty sure the Titanium media has always been described as "synthetic blend" since it was obviously not released until after Trico bought Fram. bbhero's box photo show that "synthetic blend" media description - bet the copyright date on that box is 2020, when the Titanium came out. I just can't readily believe it was all just a big "mistake in advertising". Maybe the media was slightly different per AAPs inputs for some reason. At any rate, the Titanium is a very efficient wire back filter.

Or could be Aliens ... 😄 :alien:

That would be interesting to find out ... if I have contact I'll ask him about that.
Would you know if the old Fram OG with 2 synthetic medias and wire backing is the equivalent of the currently available Fram Titanium,
or is the Fram Titanium's internals more like the new Fram Ultra?

Read all the hashing above in this thread about the OG Ultra vs the Titanium - who really knows for sure, but most likely is. Again, I wouldn't worry about it unless you're completely set on using media with a wire backing. Running a Titanium certainly won't hurt if that's the design configuration that brings more comfort.

Holy crap
It's not a shame. That coating is an abomination and whoever thought of it should be keelhauled on a cigarette boat during an ocean race at speed in rough water...
Keelhauled will not be a familiar term to most of the millennials on the board. Even though the practice should be brought back into regular use! 👍🏻

Sorry, did you mean that the OG Ultra and Titanium most likely have the same internals (Wire backing + 2 synthetic media).
If that is the case, all of us could just move to the Titanium.

If anyone is using a new Fram Titanium that they purchased recently, and could cut it open and post pictures here of the internals, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, most likely the same or at least close enough, based on what was posted about the Titanium in this thread. But, keep in mind that some members here have reported seeing some Titaniums at AAP (only store that sells them) without the wire backed media. Been some threads on it. To verify, you would have to look down the center tube with a good flashlight to visually see the wire backing or not.

I'm sure there are already threads with a Titanuim C&P. Or look at Whip City Wrencher on YoueTube. Find his YT channel, and search his channel for "Titanium".

Here's what an Ultra or Titanium with wire backing will look like down the center tube. You can see the wire through the centet tube holes.

Thanks, will do more research. This could be the answer to getting an OG (Titanium) with new purchases.

Thanks, is the wire backing the fat vertical piece, or the thin wrap around pieces?
Vertical is the pleat edge. Wrap around diamond wire is backing on the pleat material. Metal silver, media brownish pink.

Surely I can't be the only one that really likes the SureGrip coating. I don't use a cap-style filter wrench so that concern is a non-issue. The extra grip requires less effort installing and removing the filter, especially when it's coated in oil.

As a Fram customer I hope this feature is not being removed.

Thanks ZeeOSix. So if I go to Advanced Auto Parts, I can open a Fram Titanium box and look for the X's.
I just asked the guy behind the counter if I could inspect it before buying. He said sure. Passed inspection, and bought it. Or if they don't go for that, then open it in the store after you buy it, and if it doesn't pass inspection then return it right there. Tell the guy why you want to look at it.

OTOH, @The Critic said I am finding that certain Ultras can now be acquired for about $7 - which makes them a strong value for their efficiency and capacity.

Coincidentally, I've noticed that the price of the Royal Purple and TRD filters for my Camry has dropped substantially as well. Very small samples, indeed, but maybe prices are starting to come down a little? We can hope ...
Where do u buy them? No price drop for my Corolla 🥲

The lower price for the TRD was on Amazon, but when I checked just now it was back up to the higher price. It was low for a couple-three days. The Royal Purple still has a somewhat lower price at Walmart by about 10% - 11% compared to my last purchase.

Daytona Toytota on Amazon seems to have a good price on the TRD, but I didn't verify shipping cost.

Since I don't know what filter your car needs, I can't be of more help ... you'll just have to poke around.
