How much longer will it be that they will be priced at almost snap on prices?
My crystal ball says that there will be no such thing as affordable tools any more as time goes by.

Even with Tariffs, china, India, and similar tools, will be affordable. If you want the "good" import stuff, like Koken & KT from Japan, that may be a different story. Of course, there is nothing affordable about Snap-On and Williams. They are heirloom quality, though.

"Hand-operated spanners and wrenches (including torque meter wrenches but not including tap wrenches); socket
wrenches, with or without handles, drives or extensions; base metal parts thereof...."

....currently have a 9% duty (doesn't matter what country - normally). With the new tariffs, it increased to 10%. That would apply to tools from Japan, Germany, Taiwan, etc, etc. I'm very confident the "90 day pause" will turn into another 90 day pause and then quietly be forgotten and nothing will change. Still got TikTok, huh ?

Germany didn't get 90 day pause...

This topic is about tools, not automobiles (or auto parts). If I'm not mistaken, other than foreign autos, auto parts and raw steel and aluminum, the pause applies to all countries except China.

A 1/4 drive socket set from Snap on is $1165.00. I have not kept up with the news but it's Gonna have to be a huge tariff to even get close to that.

$1165.00, wow is that just unbelievable or what? $400. is too much for that.

Yeah good old union and made in USA. Video's showing them spitting those out at 1000's per hour. What a bunch of crooks.

There needs to be a handle on all the big crooked co's here if they are pushing for this made in US. No wonder everything is outa reach for an average person. Pricing yourself out of existence is just stupid.

Hand tools is a pretty limited in scope discussion, and in the grand scheme of tool cost only a small sub section of all the tools affected by tariffs. For hand tools right now Taiwan and India are not hit that hard, so brands like Icon, Gearwrench, and most of Tekton should remain somewhat stable. I say somewhat because vendors are increasing prices simply due to the uncertainty of tariffs, not necessary because they got slapped with one. For every planner they have to now track the political winds that shift daily if not hourly, thats overhead.

I've actually seen price cuts in some Vevor corded tools and ranch-type tools, so what that implies is deflationary, was the price too high in the first place (the answer is yes), and low demand.

That's the reason I no longer get on the tool trucks. There is nothing that set will do that a $40 husky or Kobalt set won't do.

That makes Hazet and Stahlwille look inexpensive.

Snap On tools are insanely overpriced. Offshore tools will never reach Snap On prices. They have already reached Snap On quality. And have as good, or an even better warranty.
We have tens of thousands of dollars of Snap-On tools where I work. I use them sometimes and while they are definitely nice, for a DIYer like me, their Taiwanese competitors are better quality than I will ever need.

Snap On tools are very expensive, but there is a huge price gap between the Snap On store and Grainger (which is what I think was posted above). I've also noticed that Snap-On has a Taiwan made brand called Blue Point, less expensive but much more than other foreign brands.

If I was a youngin again and tooling up for a wrench twisting job, I would not be spending nor even thinking about having untold thousands of dollars of snapy tools at a shop, were they can easily disappear into thin air, or ? Only time it makes sense is for some special tool or the truck is there and you need something right now.
