OEM Toyota 0W20 (Canadian) - 8,220km - 5.7 Tundra

Ran this oil for 2.5 months for a total of 8,220km. I live on an acreage so driving style is approximately 40% highway, 60% city. Very little idling and some high speed highway driving. Dumped oil at 57,436km.

I did change out the original air filter at around 52km and changed to a AFE CAI with a paper cone filter. Ran it for around 3k and noticed that some of the clamps had loosened after the install. Tightened them up and hoping this air intake issue is now resolved. Do high levels of silicon skew test results?

Holy silicon batman!! Hopefully you got it resolved though.

Take a look at my Amsoil ASM run of mostly towing with my truck, when it was fairly new. I ran it for 6 mos and 6k miles with 2 OEM filter changes.

I think iron was higher than yours, but my silicon was like 11 or so with an AFE drop in. AFE makes TRD filters you know.

Thanks for posting this. Its nice to be able to compare with what i had on my UOA.

All numbers were pretty close with the exception of:

Iron--11 vs. yours at 5 which could be cause mine was still breaking in at the time.

4 Alum vs. yours at 65. Why the huge difference here?

8 copper vs. yours at 3. Maybe breakin wear?

11 silicon vs. yours at 79. Must be the loose connections? Hopefully!!

5 moly vs. yours at 931. 931???? Where did all that moly come from?

There was a slight difference in the visc at 100C; mine was 9.1 and yours 8.0. What does your oil start out at? I'm sure this has something to do with the fact the ASM is a long drain oil.

What i noticed was how close the TBN numbers were. Mine at 3.72 and yours at 3.67. Pretty close.

You don't have OXY or NITRA numbers huh? Mine was 35 & 18.

Let me know if i'm hijacking your thread. This is good to get some number comparison's out there.

Ouch! With an Al count that high, you've done some piston damage - we only see counts like that on severely tortured engines.

Hopefully, it won't happen again.

High silicon causes more engine wear. Change the AF and dump the oil early.

Byez, thanks for the posting this.

I think this is a good report. The oil has sheared only 9% which is good for such a high VI oil. Many, including some experts had predicted this oil would get "hammered" in use and this report has shown this prediction to be unfounded. In addition the TBN level shows plenty of reserve. Now that you have hopefully rectified your air induction sealing problem you should be able to easily extend your OCI to 10,000 kms.

It would have been nice if the lab measured the 40C vis just to confirm the VI hasn't been affected significantly although the shearing affect is usually almost as high at the lower temperature level as at 100C.

Some critisized the VOA as not correct in some ways, and i think he had someone else do it a second time.

*If* the VOA is correct this is the perfect example of why a VOA can be so useful in properly analyzing a UOA.

If possible every UOA should include a link to the corresponding UOA.

Wearcheck showed aluminum as 21. When I had a second test done by Toromont, they showed aluminum as 1. The samples were from the same bottle.

I wish there was some sort of consistency between labs...how hard can it be..do they not all run the tests the same way?

Have you looked at the VOA of Toyota 0w20? It (and the Honda 0w20) have loads of moly in it.

Is there any possibility it could have been caused by the high silicon?

I amnot going to coment until you get that silicon under control. Lets hope it was just lose clamps and not the filter design itself. I take a very low opinion of after market filters because so often they produce poor results! So lets get the silicone under control first. The oil looks good I like the Moly and Born init to help make up for lack of ZDDP but I do wish the calcium was a tad higher. I would like to see another run with this oil but with out the silicone!
