I just replaced the heater hoses and all those tiny coolant hoses running around the throttle body on the '87 Legend.

My heater control valve started leaking so I figured since the hoses were NEVER replaced,I should do some PM. After all, the hoses have 396k miles on them.

To be honest, once I got the hoses off the engine and examined them, they really didn't need replacing. They were a little stiff when compared with the new hoses and were no where near brittle. The insides of the hoses weren't cracked or deteriorated.

I didn't feel like disassembling the passenger side wheel well, so I left the two coolant hoses for the oil cooler for next time.

Talk about quality/reliability of Honda/Acura, almost 400k miles with original heater hoses and still in good shape. Most owners of other makes would be very happy if those hoses lasted 200k miles.

Consider yourself lucky as my father's '88 Legend ruptured a coolant hose in '94 the evening we were leaving for a cross country trip from California to Pennsylvania. I sold the car for him in '98 with ~125k miles on it so I'd guess it had ~80k on it at the time.

That being said I've replaced coolant hoses on my Hondas around 100k as a precaution and those hoses have still been in great shape.

My hoses are still original in my '95 (built in '94), they look fine.

I might have them changed next time I change the thermostat down the road.

My co-worker's '98 Accord blew an upper radiator hose a few years ago, but it was over 150k at the time. However, I think he only replaced the coolant once over that 150k.

I just changed out the original radiator hoses on my Saturn after 13 years and 121k. The upper and lower hoses were starting to get soft, but I was unable to find any signs of ECD. The bypass hoses was like new. This car did see three coolant changes over the course of 13 years.

The rubber used to make hoses and stuff has gotten ALOT better over the years. Anymore we only see them go bad if they get contaminated from oil leaks etc...the oil will eat them up pretty good.

A little extra heat in the engine compartment will puke parts faster.
Japanese have historically used decent rubber. German cars have been not so hot.

The original owner kept it in the garage for half it's life until it got replaced with a CL Type-S. I got the car in 2000 and its been sitting outside ever since.

The paint shows its age, but the leather interior is still nice.

I never replaced any of the heater hoses in my 1995 Ford Contour..it has 220k on it.
