If you're using premium fuel already and still pining then there is something wrong with your car. Using octane boost is just masking the problem.
Check/change the plugs, clean out the throttle body/intake, clean the MAF sensor, check the oxygen sensors, etc...
And possibly carbon deposits in the top of the combustion chamber.
The proprietary additive in these octane boosters is an organo-manganese compound Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT or MCMT).
