You mentioned not being the only one having this problem. What are the guys on the Cayenne forums doing about it? Any working theories or practical insight from that group?
What's the year and mileage?
Does the pinging go away if you reset the ECU and then go directly to the usual spot/RPM/load that makes it occur? I'm not sure how your ECU works, but it might reset to a lower ignition advance multiplier, then slowly it up based on knock sensor input (i.e., no knock = keep advancing timing to max or until knock is detected, then back off just a little.)
