Howdy all!

After spending hours on BITOG, I decided on Mobil 1 0w20 synthetic and a Fram Ultra Synthetic filter. I also added LiquiMoly additive. I have a 2005 Ford Focus with a 2.0 Duratec engine and 120,000 miles.

My question is this: I've put 8,500 miles in 7 months on this combo with daily driving and a lot of highway miles. The oil still looks pretty clean. Am I good to go for a 12,000-15,000 mile mile OCI, or should I change it sooner?

Welcome...!

I'd be careful of that without getting a UOA about now. What has been your routine before now?

I was considering getting a UOA, what's the best price for one, and would it be worth it, or should I wait until 10k and do it then? I found a $18 UOA kit from Wix on Amazon.

I actually just bought the car 7 months ago and immediately changed the oil. 80% of my miles are carefully-driven highway miles.

If you want to do 15k, consider EP.

Fram Ultra is a great filter, but if there's an AAP nearby, they have the oil change special that includes the M1 filter, which is also guaranteed to 15k when synthetic oil is used.

I do 10K OCIs with M1 0-20AFE and have used this oil for several years now at that OCI in my 2007 Focus. My engine is like new clean, shows no sign of wear, and uses no oil in 10K. Also I don't do UOAs.

M1 0-20 will serve you well even in hotter temps like Texas, as it holds up very well in high temps.

Wonderful! You have the exact same car as me, so I'm thinking a 10k OCI is safe. Have you ever found a 12k or 15k UOA of our Focii?

I would go 12k without even thinking about it. Those Focus engines are very, very easy on oil, especially if it is highway miles.

There are very few real reasons to do UOAs. Oil condition which might show contamination from fuel, dirt, or coolant are the biggest reason to do so IMO. One member here does 15K OCIs with M1 0-20 in a Ford truck with a V8. Another(Fsskier) does 15-20K OCIs with M1 0-20, so 10K is no problem for the most part.
