This might be interesting for folks with a troublesome fan controller involving a Luton brand controller. Lutron manufactures fancy lighting and fan controllers that utilize a RF signal to be able to turn on multiple lights or multiple fans from a single wall switch and to control a single fan that is mounted too high to reach the speed control chain. The system was sold using the Maestro model name.
Normally the fan itself might have a chain pull assembly to change speeds. The Lutron assembly was used to allow the fan speed to be controlled from the fan switch, especially where the fan was installed beneath a high ceiling where the chain could not be reached. The chain switch would just be left on the highest setting.
To do this with fans, the electrician installed a Luteon “ canopy module “ inside the fan assembly, between the wiring from the wall switch and the fan body. The wall switch is also a Lutron and the canopy module and switch were sold together. Lutron no longer manufactures these assemblies.
Here are photos of the canopy module and the wall switch.
