After being fed up with leaking Lucas bottles I am now testing MMO in my 2.5L Subaru... So far I've noticed a smoother running engine at idle and through the rpm band (unexpectedly) and I like the smell of MMO. I don't know if it will do a darned thing for me though, but for $3.50 for 32oz I figured it cant hurt. If it keeps my valves clean for that price I'm happy

Anyone else want to chime in about MMO again? I know it's been talked about a lot.

Personally, nothing has affected my mileage. I only notice a difference in performance. Lucas and MMO both tend to give the car more low end "umph" off the line and a much smoother engine. My little I4 purs like a kitten with them.

FP60 tends to make the engine sound better. I had an injector hiss that FP cleared up. It seems to make the engine sound like its bigger than what it really is.

I only use a fuel injector cleaner ever 12K. Nothing else - never had a problem in individual vehicle(s) owerships that span 14-19 years. To avoid fuel troubles, I won't purchase house/off brands of gas - always avoid filling-up when gas tankers are present. I think the best rule of thumb for fuel pumps is to NEVER run out of gas - or let the tank get below a two gallon reserve.

==========================

I have two sale topics in the "Items For Sale" forum-room here at BITOG.

Lucas UCL is a better product than MMO for fuel use.
But I like MMO even if all it did was lube fuel system parts, and be a top end lube.

That's one thing that cannot be said enough... filling up when tankers are filling the big underground tanks is always a bad idea. I avoid that at all costs, I don't want trash in my tank!

I remember a few years ago that Gary Allan proved that MMO does no harm... I even followed his lead and ran massive amounts of MMO combined with ATF as a fuel additive. Other than a fair amount of white smoke, I don't really know if any long-term improvement really occured. There was a temporary improvement in idle smoothness.

I do know nothing BAD happened.

The question is, does MMO actually make anything measureably GOOD happen on a lasting basis... hmmm.

i have been adding 1/2 qt for each fill up recently (14 gallons in my vehicle) just to finish off some partly used bottles. it is amazing. my idle is vastly improved when i do this. i have no idea what's happening. if anything i would expect the mmo to lower the octane of the gas and possibly trigger the knocks sensors. it is a gm engine so it apparently runs rich anyway, so perhaps a lower octane would be a bit better.

Any top end lube will help seal the rings and valves a bit, along with the benefit of extra lube in those stressed areas.
That should show benefits of a bit more compression, and less leakage. The lube would add a bit of friction protection, as well.
Any cleaning is even better.

Running out of gas is the only thing that will ever damage a fuel pump since they are cooled internally by gasoline running through them.

Not filling up when tankers deliver is a little rediculous considering #1 the fuel is filtered before going in the tanker, #2 filter at the pump, #3 filtered in your tank, & #4 filtered before hitting the engine.

The only thing I ever worry about is water which the drivers stick for anyway when they check the tanks level so they don't overflow it.

Now I do agree, buying backwater gas does effect the engine. I tend to stick with Shell(Toptier Gas), Hess, BP/Amocco, & Sunoco.

I swear the car runs better on the 10% Ethanol Sunoco then anything else but it most likely is all me.

MMO Update: Fuel pump noise is completely gone. I'm very happy with the MMO so far. Fuel economy seems roughly the same, engine smoothness improved, but the fuel pump silence is wonderful. I know it's lubricating that at least!

I noticed that as well in our old Accent, never heard the fuel pump with MMO, somewhat heard it after that.

I wondered my new car is a SL1 Saturn with TBI. TBI uses one large injector spitting down the throttle body basically coating the entire intake with gas so I wonder how MMO would fair in that situation.

You have a cleaner intake than any MPI system. Your PCV emissions/ingress is constantly washed down instead of accumulating. I don't see any downside to MMO in a TBI setup. You may give up a bit of valve cleanliness since the injector doesn't get to spray directly on the hot backside of the intake valve. Just my opinion

I found this by searching for info on MMO

Marvel Mystery Oil is:

1% Industrial Grade Fatty Oil-- Lard Oil which works under extreme pressure
better than mineral oil
Red Analine Petroleum Dye- makes it red
Methyl Salicylate--wintergreen oil, wonderful stuff
TCP-- you find it all over to help 100LL problems...
25% Varsol Mineral Spirits/Stoddard solvent-- Petroleum Solvent
59% Solvent Extracted Napthnic Petroleum Oil--Mineral oil

I have been using biodiesel as a fuel additive for the last 3 years. I also use it to replace 2 stroke lube in the chainsaw and weed trimmer. I use it at 5%. The engines smoke a bit but the exhaust smells much better than it used to with 2 stroke oil.

I wouldn't use biodiesel as a substitute for 2 stroke oil. Sorry, but there is much film thickness wear protection that you are NOT getting from biodiesel. Thats about as risky as changing your motor oil to biodiesel. Use biodiesel to supplement the fuel. Or, use it to replace a small percentage of the 2-stroke oil. But, don't use it as a complete replacement for 2-stroke oil. And yes, I've killed a couple small 2cycle engines on biodiesel. It'll just take a little time and you will too.

MMO is great fuel additive.
