Go back and tell him something crazy like this...

"Actually I buy a quart of Havoline, Pennzoil, Exxon, Castrol, and Value Craft (pick any 5 different brands you like). See none of them are great individually so I mix them together in a jug and shake them well then pour my custom brew into my engine and use a quality FRAM oil filter since this brew offers me card board protection according to my specifications. Now that they are all working together, I do 50,000 mile OCIs and switch brands around at any time."

I can just see it now: This just in: Baltimore, MD - a crazed and obviously disturbed man was taken into custody early today following a shooting spree in a local Autozone store that left five employees and the store manager clinging to life and covered in motor oil. The assailant was quoted by investigating officers as sobbing and mumbling nearly incoherently, 'But, they're wrong, just W-R-O-N-G!!!' The suspect was transferred directly to a nearby mental facility after refusing legal representation, but demanding a call be put through to BITOG. WOIL-TV's research staff, meanwhile, is attempting to locate any information on just who or what "BITOG" refers to - the fear among Homeland Security officials is that further assaults may be imminent from what undoubtedly is a dangerous terrorist organization willing to threaten public safety with the random use of hazardous materials. The White House has been notified and a spokesman for the President is expected to call a news conference as further details of this bizarre tragedy trickle in. As a precaution, the President has been placed aboard Air Force One. Its destination is classified, though Canadian authorities have announced it won't be permitted to land on Canadian territory. Film and further late-breaking details at eleven."

That is nothing you wanna hear something scary. In 95 I was attending a local diesel course and the instructor who claimed to have a long history in gas engines as well was asked what he thought of synthetic oil. I didnt know anything (or didnt care) about the subject back then so anyways this is what the instuctor actually said synthetic oil is the best oil there is, but you have to drain out your old oil fill the engine with 2qts synthetic run it for 10min and then dump it out and then you will be ok to run it from there on out. Keep in mind this is also the same guy that told us you could drink (qt)brake fluid without dying. Ahhhh the good ol days LOL. I knew he was full of crap back then but some beleived him thats prob how these rumors start in the first place.

That has to be the funniest thing I've read in a long time. lol

I'm glad because I've pretty much used a different oil every single time I've changed oil in my car. So far, at 44,000 miles, my car is still running well ouputting great UOAs.

No gum yet.

P.S. I wonder what would happen if you dropped gum into your engine via the oil fill cap.

Hmmm, I gotta hear this..

And so, he asked: How and for what did you sue for bad advice from Auto Parts store and Kwik Lube places?

Aren't you kinda ASKING for trouble when you do that? And, wouldn't you deserve it?

Nonetheless, what did you win?

Circa 1995, mightn't that have been the case?

Autozoners do not work on comission so their is no benifitt to them trying to up-sell. It is unfortunate though that only 1-2 people out of a staff of 13-20 at any given AutoZone are compentent in the field of automotive knoldge!!!

They really do not train them much and the training they do get in on policy and sale information on their brand of products ie.. battetry's, starters alternators etc.....

To make matters even worse oil related knoldge in the aoutmotive field is rare! Most mechanics are fairly ignorant by bitog standards in terms of tribology knoldge!

When you do get someone that is very knoldgeable at AutoZOne they are usualy in between good jobs. The turn over for good people at AUtoZOne is really high. They pay pretty poorly and try to keep most of the staff part time.

The auto parts kid recommended I use an engine flush product in my vehicle. He pushed for the sale. I followed the directions as written. According to the dealer/mechanic this product caused debris to come loose and stopped up the oil pump screen. End of engine.

I went to the owners of the store and they laughed when I told them they could buy the replacement engine for bad advice. I had the engine replaced and sent them a dunn for the damage every 30 days and filed a lawsuit, which their lawyers tried to drag on for years. I filed a commercial lien agaist the business and I refused to lift it unless we went to court. They oblidge and we went to court I took them to the cleaners several times over. If they had just paid for the engine when they had their opportunity, I'd would have called thing even.

So, you drove the car with a low OP light? Doesn't the manual advise aginst that? It's not like the store PUT the sludge into your engine or even formulated the flush. I think you and your engine both suffered from bad Karma. (and probally will in the future)

No they do not get spif either!!! AutoZOners make on average $8-$11 an hour. Red shirts make about $8 and hour Grey shirts(management)make about $11 an hour. You usualy see about 5-8 grey shirts and 15 red shirts. Red shirts usualy get 15 hours or less due to corperate pressure to constantly hire more red shirts and keep their hours low. Grey shirts get first dip on the hours corperate has allowed that store for the week. Then after most of the grey shirts have 40 or more hours the remaining hours are divided amoungst the red shirts. A person automotive knoldge, customer satisfation levels, and job performance has no bearing on how many hours they get or promotions. It usualy comes down to how much butt someone will kiss.

The store manager has almost complete athority over his store. If you get a good store manager then you get a great AutoZone with great well trained staff. I worked at AutoZone and can tell you that good Storemanagers do not last long. THe good ones get promoted to postions within the corperate structure or they quite and go to work some place else. I had the displeasure of working for one of the most incompetent store managers I have ever seen. The problem is that his sales numbers are just good enough to keep him in his postion.

AutoZoners get no other compensation other then their normal pay check. The corperation will have contests and give bonus's to the top produceing stores in a region. The store managers though are the only people that routinely get an anaual bonus based on their stores yearly performance.
