Not much talk about Mobil Clean 5000

So it would seem so far from the posted comments that this oil is just as good for 5K oci's as Pennzoil conventional. And with the price being cheaper it's better for the wallet to boot.

My area WM's ST is made by WP not Mobil. I'll do a used oil analysis on it and see what shows up in the report.

Well, I use Mobil 5000 in all three of my vehicles and believe it or not, they all start everytime I turn the key

Mobil seems to want to move this oil at the "On the Run" stores in CT. It was only $5.99/qt for MC5000 and $11.99/qt for Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

At those prices I'd be running alright. Far away from Mobil.

i saw some Mobil 1 for 13.99 a qt at a bradford, vt convenience store...the mobil clean was 4.99 a qt...i have never seen the 5-30 or 10-30 super tech blended by wpp in NH, i think mobil does it here...5-20 is wpp and super tech syn is too

Much better power to weight than most "sporty" cars from the eighties. 105 HP and 2300 lbs makes for a pretty "spunkY:' ride. You could never dream of an economy car having a 8 sec 0-60 in the eighties - except for that turbo colt with the 4 speed and hi/low range that was around 7 sec.

Whenever you get a slight to moderate cyl imbalance, many times its due to sticky rings(not "the weather") Run a cyl balance test to find the offending cyl(s), pull the plug and do a top oil soak ... Or employ the Italian tuneup method. Look at all the people using 2 quarts over an OCi - They have oil control issues. Most folks think their engine runs fine when its actually 20% down on power.

I may be wrong, but i've always been under the impression that Honda, GM Goodwrench, and the other OE packaged Exxon oil was actualy Mobil Drive Clean (MDC), which is the same as Exxon Superflo, which is a notch below MC5K.

I do know that mobil bulk oil from drums is MDC and not MC5K. I believe mobil even says this on their website.

Either way, both are quality oils for the price. I've used lots of Superflo and like it a lot.

I confirmed my local subaru dealer is using bulk MDC 530. Kept questioning them since they were insisting it was "semi-synthetic" and I was unaware of any shop using the expensive MC 7500 as a service fill. My prev chevy dealer in Andover, MA used bulk Valvoline 530 which alway seemd "better" than the Valvoline conventional i got from Walmart or Advance when i did my own OC's

Mobil Clean 7500 seems hard to find around my neck of the woods. I wish my walmart still carried it, but they don't.

The generic Valvoline products (CarQuest & Napa house brand oils) served me very well for years. When you can get it on sale, i think it's a heck of a deal.

My uncle has a 96 Maxima and he just used this in October. I am worried because he will keep it in for 5k miles and its not a synthetic.

Wont this cause sludge?

5,000 miles on a conventional is nothing.

Arco, Which Subaru dealer are you refering to ?
I know that Tracy Banks Saab uses the Mobil 7500 10w40 for customers that don't want to spend the $$ for Mobil 1 0w40.
My friend has a receipt that states this from when he still serviced his 9-3 at the dealer, Before I started servicing it.

That is because it is a cheap oil with nothing remarkable about it. It gives exactly what you are paying for and nothing else and inspite of the name it will not clean anything!!! THey could put Dog Poo Polisher on it and just because the label had that name does not mean it is designed to polish dog poo. A lot of people assume it must do some cleaning with a name like Drive CLean or Mobil Clean 5000 etc......Just a cheap oil and if you can find it SupperFlo is the same product often even cheaper then the Mobil version!

It has good detergent levels, so why won't it do any cleaning?

If I understand their warranty correctly, one of the advantages of Mobil Clean 5000 is that, so long as your engine is in good working order (presumably you would have documentation indicating previous maintenance) when you put the oil in, ExxonMobil will warrant that your engine will not suffer a lubricant-related failure due to using Mobil Clean 5000 for 5,000 miles/6 months.

The warranty is renewed when you change the oil, even if you previously went over the 5,000 mile limit (it'd obviously be void for the time you're over 5,000 miles).

Pennzoil/Quaker State/Valvoline oils only seem to offer their warranty if you use their oil's for a long time (I don't recall exactly, but I think Quaker State wanted you to use their oils from the first oil change and change every 4,000), and the warranty was void forever if you went over 4,000 miles, even by a single mile.

I'm sure that ExxonMobil, like any other major company, would try to wiggle out of any warranty claims, but it's still comforting that they're willing to warrant their products in such a way.

My mechanic uses Mobil Drive Clean (as mentioned before, a notch below Clean 5000) and a used oil analysis for my car looks pretty good.
