Picked this rental up for work as our 26ft International is in the shop. I had no idea Isuzu did this. Once I starting driving it I was like wait a sec. I assumed every NPR was a smaller 4 cylinder diesel.

GM Gen V 6.6l backed by an Allison 6 speed according to their site.

At the Flying school we have 1 fuel truck for about 4700 litres capacity made by Isuzu, V8 Gasoline engine. The 2 other fuel trucks are Dodge 3500 Diesels, the life of a diesel fuel truck is awful, spends all day with engine running and never goes over 12km/h and the DEF system hardly ever gets cycled correctly. We have 1 Dodge only 2 years old that needs a complete turbo, CAT, DEF system replacement.

The Isuzu gasoline truck is our smallest, but much more reliable.

At my first job ever we had an Isuzu NPR. Had a good ole small block 350 in it. I tried to drive it once because I figured it can’t be much different than my Suburban I had at the time. Holy cow, backing up was terrifying even with someone guiding me. Haha! No backup camera no nothing!

I do not like the mirrors on this thing, the bigger international is easier to back into a dock.

I actually found it quite quick but this one was practically new, the older ones may need the flogging.
6.0 probably. 6.6 is over 400 horse and 464 ft/lbs of torque. It moves that pile just fine. I regularly gross at 17 to 19000 with my 6.6 gasser and even the passes out west to go 60 or 65 I dont think I have seen over 3800 RPM. The old 6.0 would routinely see that.

One of these would make a good alternative to a pickup for a landscaper.
A real medium truck that can be found pretty cheaply.
You do see a few used for that purpose.

I rented a gasser from Penske about 5 years ago and was vey impressed. I Made a 500 mile round trip in one day and the little truck ran and drove great though as expected, it was very thirsty. It was governed to about 72 mph and I spent a lot of time in the left lane without stacking up the traffic behind me. IIRC I spent quite a bit more on gas than the actual rental fee. With the COE you’re guaranteed to be the first one to the scene of the accident.
