Nissan rust issues on Today Show

I had an 89 Shadow as a winter car, got 300K miles out of it and 23 new england winters, sold the car in 2012 and it is still running. had to weld a few patches in the wheel wells but that was it.
Are all Nissans problematic with poor body integrity. I see a lot of rotted toyotas and hondas at the local yard but not as much Nissan stuff.

2002-2006 Altimas, yep no surprise here with Nissan. When I owned my 03 Altima 2.5L before the precat puked and terminated the engine @ ~80k miles, Nissan sent a warning on the rear sub frame/suspension saying it could rust out and/or crack prematurely. They did extend the warranty on the frame because they had to as it was considered a "safety issue".
But as the link below* shows though, it was moot point as the Nissan 2.5L precat failed destroying the engine. Another known issue to Nissan, but not considered a safety issue and they also left owners stranded and with no recourse. So Nissan's response here is no surprise to me, typical. Based on my personal experience, a trash company that I will never do business with again.

I was thinking of picking up a Versa or Versa Note. But it seems like they have a lot of issues with engine randomly giving up, too. I believe there are a few peopleon here (I know ARCOgraphite is one) that had a Note that blew and engine.

when I live up north, I saw some peoples treat their cars like a truck, they run and park over a thick tall snow that reach of the top bottom of their car, and go in for work.

I have zero doubt cars up north have rust issues. Here in VA the state uses some sort of compound that is spayed or drizzled on the roads prior to snow starting. And LONG after the snow is gone it can get pulled up from the pavement from a rain shower. How strong is that stuff I wonder? Also I wonder if the body of a car is negatively charged then could this increase rust formation ? Hmmm..
Now my Altima has been fine but it is obviously a generation later too. But having heard this I am going to keep my eyes on stuff. I do agree with others on here who believe that Toyota and Honda are higher level quality. I think that this generation of Altima I have is a fair amount better.

I've never seen a rusted floorboard on any car,ever. My friend had a 97 Altima with a bit over 400,000 miles on it (she even lived in Alaska for a few years). No rust,paint in great shape,even the trim in great shape. Never garaged and hardly ever washed. But I feel that the Nissans made up until the late 90s are superior to the ones they make now.
Only cars I see here with any problems are always Fords that smoke.

The last solid car Nissan made was the 5th gen Maxima. It's all been downhill from there.
Also, LOL at the people saying Honda treats its customers better and would properly address an issue like this. They left so many people out to dry (including myself) with their [censored] transmissions up until the mid-2000s.

Nissan CVTs in general are junk. Not just in the Versas. But I wouldn't be buying one with the glorified snowmobile transmission.

I really doubt this opinion. However I do think the problem will show up with:
1. Use in salt belt zone.

4. Substandard raw materials in floorboard stampings.
5. Infrequent winter / spring washing of undercarriage by owners.
6. Owners not using rubber floor mats in winter weather.
7. Owners using rubber floor mats that are allowed to overflow and trap moisture in the carpets.
I've seen the photos of Altima floor boards with holes the size of my 14's it did not happen in 1 year of neglect, this is a combination of all my observations, IMHO

I saw ALOT of Nissan cars truck driving around here, I usually can count more chevy or ford, but now I see Nissan every where I turn. Mabe they can get great deal here because the Nissan plan is closer, but anyway I seen alot of them driving it now. Im diggin that black Armada SUV, I seen more house wife driving white Armada platium, looking really nice.
The Armada sit much taller then my chevy truck, that I note lol. Mabe time to upgrade to bigger wheel haha
