In the market for a small and affordable SUV/Crossover with AWD. Any issues with them that I should know about? Nissan recommends premium fuel...is that a must?

I think they are good vehicles. Pretty nice turbo 1.6 in it. 200hp. It's cvt has all the bugs worked out. I do think the premium fuel is a must though.

Better than a Fiat 500 anything, but people will think you are a bit strange for driving an ugly stick.

If I ever became bulimic I'd get one of these so I can stick my head in the garage for a peek and the vomit would come quickly and naturally.

Anyone seen one with any sort of masculine sporty mods? I get the feeling this car is just a few mods away from going from semi-feminine to bad [censored].

LOL.

It's a nice sporty vehicle, but for similar pricing...you can get a higher rated new Subaru Forester or Toyota RAV4 with more room and practicality.

I am disturbed the recent issues in Subaru build quality and the rube goldberg way of having to change fluid on the Toyotas is scaring me away. I like to do my own fluid changes.

As for looks...I have to be practical over stylish. I have 6 figures of student loan money to pay back, so I need reliable, easy to work on, and inexpensive. I think most modern cars look like rubbish anyways. If I lived in a better climate, I would be driving vintage iron all the time.

Will you sell the Scion? Another small car without the AWD..

The Scion is about worthless in the winter and has a salvage title, so I will likely just sign it over to my sister who needs a new car(hers is a beater 96 Taurus). I now have to drive about 80 miles a day roundtrip on back roads to get to the school I am teaching at and in winter it is a nightmare with the TC even with snow and ice tires. If I need to haul something I borrow my dad's Silverado longbed.

My sister's friend has one. Its always in the shop for transmission work. Granted, the work is being done under warranty, but every time her friend is over she has a different rental car. That doesn't really inspire confidence about the vehicle.

Although last time she was over she had a nice Chrysler 200.

That award goes to the Pontiac Aztek in my book.

Juke looks like a mutant frog. I don't mind the looks, but the interior is very cramped, Unless you are tiny, you will be constantly rubbing shoulders with your copilot.

Didn't know cars had to look masculine for a guy to drive one without becoming feminized.

hotwheels not hotheels

What about one of those Hyundai three door things that looks like it got stepped on by a t-rex in Jurassic Park? I think they even named it a Velociraptor too.

I have a creeping fetish of an AWD Juke fitted with rally-design wheels (like Sparco Terra), aggressive snow tires, and some chunky mudflaps. It'd be a riot in inclimate weather and look like a rallycross car doing it.
