I was in auto zone today and noticed they have STP oil filters in a gold box they say extended life 99% efficiency @20 microns per iso 4548-12 optimized for synthetic and conventional motor oil. Engineered to last 10,000 miles. Also looks to have a silicone anti drain back valve.. They look to be made by purolater but looking inside on the center tube there are a lot of oil holes and they are of good size not those restrictive looking tiny slits purolater is using on their new line. Although i did not cut any of them opened upon first glances they look like a nice filter.. I don't remember what the cost was but it was in the $8.00 range i think.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Nice to see an effieciency rating. If they are made by Purolater I wish they would do the same with the BOSS.

I just got an autozone mailer with a $2 off coupon for the extended life version which makes it very competitively priced.

I am getting set to cut a variety of filters that would compete with Purolator Classic, Purolator PureOne and Motorcraft. I think Champion Labs makes some reasonable product that at least does not tear. I am also thinking the eCore designs have been improved.

No it's not synthetic microglass media, they are using tons of pleats to achieve the "10,000" mile rating which means it's cheap media a form of cellulose possibly resin impregnated or minimal glass fibers, I can't know for sure.

They looked a little like puro's except the center tube looked like it had a lot of nice oil holes instead of those tiny slits puro uses in their new filters. Now i see the media in these filters and it doesnt have wavvvy media so i guess it can't be..
Wow if they are machined like that with those burrs this is yet another filter i won't be buying.
If they are made in China someone should tell them lots of people cut open filters these days so they can't hide anymore.

Other than the high price and issues with machining its an okay filter, but still the media is nothing fancy so i would be interesting to see how it ACTUALLY held up to a real 10k run. It would be competitive at about $6.

Looks very similar to the International Distributing sourced Premium Guard/Parts Plus EX filters. Those also have a red sealing gasket on the baseplate, couldnt see the one here though.

I bet they sell a tons, thousands nationwide, of them every day. I don't know why AZ needs to choose filters made in Korea when there are USA brands for the same price that are better. I guess they don't need to, but maybe there is something going on behind the scenes? I mean, they are an American outfit selling in America, right? maybe the profit margin on the Korean filters sold for $9 is super high compared to a USA made filter.

Been using the OEM filters for my Hyundai daily driver - I see no reason to go anything else as they are good quality. Just watch out for the fakes that are out there.

South Korea isn't part of China. It's printed on the box & label where these filters are made.

You liked the Driveworks Made in China filters at one time except having "Made in China" on the filter made your shop "look bad" in your opinion.

I said "if" they are made in China..
As for the Driveworks filters they seemed ok but the Wix filters look better on a quality rebuilt engine and the Wix made me feel better. I also used Motorcraft on the ford engines. And once in a while Mopar on the Mopars but changed most of that because some of those filters were made by puro and i did not want them on any of my engines.
