Slowly breathing new life into an 09 Elantra Wagon. Did the plugs yesteday and were very likely original's with 144K miles and 17 years. Figured you guys would like to see the carnage. Replaced with Denso 4701's

They look just like the ones I pulled out of my 2011 Rav4, Gap in mm, not 1000's, minimum on mine was 1/8 of an inch. Still ran good, now maybe a little smoother, Toyota Denso's out, NGK's i8

Of all the phenomena we detail here, the warning that "old (widening) plugs strain the coils" is the least factually based.

Also, there's never been a post featuring excessively worn plugs AND a statement like, "so this is why I had 3 bad coils!"

Are those plugs still in operation when you removed them? The electrodes are already gone making it impossible to ignite.
They came from a 210k mile Chevy 6.0. The truck was recently purchased and I hadn’t gotten around to plugs yet. I started getting some pinging under heavy throttle, and upon pulling the plugs this is what I found. 64k miles later truck is still running great.
