Just bought a used engine and the oil doesnt look bad the oil filler is very clean. Seeing as how i know nothing other than that what oil can i use to make sure its clean as it looks? I will likey use dino oil or PP since everybody here likes it so well after the cleaning changes.

Thats fine but i didnt want to buy 30 dollar oil and change it after 500 or 1000 miles if it gets dirty. Wouldnt some kind of HDEO work best for this?I wont run anything thicker than 10w30 i will likely go to 5w30 after cleaning.

If it looks good I'd just change the oil & filter on a regular interval and not worry in the least about cleaning the engine...

If you want to run some short drains, QSGB or PYB should fit your requirement.
Both should clean as well as anything else, and either is fairly cheap.
If you really suspect deposit build up, MMO, Kreen or ARX might be in order.
Try plain oil first and see what you end up with.

+1 I think PYB is the better cleaning of the two and QSGB on the more durable side, but either will clean easily and be a good choice to run all the time year round.

That's what oil is supposed to do. Remove deposits. Just because its dark doesn't mean it stops cleaning.

How about if you run a single short interval on name brand conventional PCMO and then look at the filter media and get a UOA and let the insolubles number help you decide if there's any need for cleaning?
