New toy, a Bushnell radar gun

Mama just purchased a Speedster III radar gun for me. Thinking I might like it. It is really cool, and plenty of fun to play with. I plan on measuring RC planes, dirt bikes and other hobby type sports.

However, as you might have guessed, I had to try it on my road last night. I live in a semi rural area and my road is straight, without speedbumps (unlike the others in the hood). So, people go out of the way to drive my road, avoiding the ones with speedbumps. Posted 30MPH.

The first guy was 42. Then the occasional 50, 61, and even a pickup truck/trailer at nearly 70. Ha, I knew it! Some of these rednecks really fly! The speed risk is not so bad anymore, as every house has a fenced yard. Otherwise dogs/kids get killed here. Had a horrible accident occur right in front of my house, with a German Shepard dog, on a leash, with a horse and rider. They were hit by a 80MPH pickup. He never stopped.
 
You should set it up on a stand and wear something official looking but not to be mistaken for, a police uniform.

See how you freak folks out.

Depending upon what kind of car you drive, you could really spook them.

I've been driving with it. I set the cruise control at 50MPH in a 55 zone, and it picks up my speed. (my speedo is off by a little).

Then opposing traffic gets tagged. I simply subtract 50 mph from the speed displayed. Interestingly enough, most people go fairly close to the limit.

It's interesting to see some people slow down as the radar detector picks up my signal.

I'm going to try some RC planes next weekend. I hope this thing is sensitive enough for them.

Also, it's quite directional. It really could use some form of optical sight for easy aiming.

Stand on a highway overpass with the sun setting behind you, so you are just a silhouette, and nail the cars below. See which ones are paying attention.

As for the ballfield, act like a scout. Bring a note pad and scribble stuff on it.

It's probably an FCC Part 15 (low power) unlicensed device. The full-power police-style radar guns require an FCC Part 90 Radiolocation Service license, unless operated by an agency with another FCC license.
