New tools

Took advantage of a Buy-One-Get-One deal my Snap-on dealer had going, Buy the Metric flare nut sockets....Get the SAE flare nut sockets for free.

I've wanted these sockets for years, But never came across used ones or a deal on the truck until now, $500 cash for both sets after some negotiation.

Those are sexy AF... but GULP $500 for 17 sockets? Timesaving tools like those only make sense for those that use them for a living... what's the torque limit on something like that with such a severe cutaway?
 
Exactly what I was thinking . I would have to use them most every day .

I might use them , might not . Ever .

So , $ 50 is more than I would bay , or $ 25 for the metric & $ 25 for the SAE sets .

I have metric & SAE flare nut wrenches and seldom use them . ( Last time was probably installing a mini split . ) And mine are HF . Think I may have metric flare nut crow's foot for the ratchet ?

As far as a torque limit on the flare nut socket , you could break them loose with a flare nut wrench & then spin them off with the socket ?
 
Nice! I only have a few of these from Hazet as specialty tools for VW, MB, BMW but they are similar and common metric sizes.
Most if the time a flare crows foot or flare wrench gets it done so that would be a big investment at this point. I can see where you would use them more.

Snap On flare wrench wrenches are the best and I assume their flare sockets are, too. Flare wrenches/sockets are one of those tools that you should spend money on.

That's the only brand new Snap On tool I have ever purchased, a metric flare nut wrench set.
 
The only flare socket I have is an oxy sensor one, and they do spread on a tight one. I have a taper roller inner race that I slip down over the socket the stop the spread, but that's not going to work ona pipe unless you get the other end off.
 
I didn't even know something like this existed. I needed something like this for undoing the hydraulic lines from my trucks steering gear last summer and figured I'd have to get a crowfoot version. These look very easy to control and balance into position so they're kept square on the nut. More controlled torque and hopefully fewer broken bolts.

Want to be truly horrified? Look at what Snap On 1/4 inch drive flex sockets cost.

for a pro in business snap-on mac + others are worth it, but for average joe too $$$$$$!! i have a very few snap-on wrenches for special applications. i bought a 7/16 box + open wrench years ago $10 craftsman was $3.26, but the smaller size + closer tolerances tightened my header bolts better. that i learned at my friends garage, a professional alignment shop!! its like using Redline oil in a cheap daily driver, good but not needed but its your $$$

Those are very expensive from any big quality name.

The problem is....I don't own any metric flare crows feet. I have a Snap-on SAE set I bought @25 years ago along with some individual SAE open ends over the years. The 1-1/4" crows foot was IIRC over $100 & used it a hand full of times on Accumulator fittings on a obscure GM Incomplete/RV chassis.

Unfortunately.....I had to have Metric & SAE tools sets when I started out in the late 80's as GM dealer tech. I almost envy techs today having to only buy metric tools. Though it IS entertaining to watch one work on a 2002 Express Van with a 5.7L that has a plethora of SAE fasteners

Your referring to the 1/4" universals?

111TMUSMA, 5.5-15mm.....List for $530.00
106TMUSA, 1/4"-9/16".......List for $286.00

I have a Cornwell set of 1/4" drive SAE universals, I don't remember what they cost. Pictured in the above pic.

I prefer 1/4" Impact wobbles over the universal style, Just as outrageously expensive.....I have a 1/4" to 1/4" adapter, 7mm, 8mm, & 10mm that does what I need. I want the 13mm & 15mm.

Probably not, If I didn't get the SAE set BOGO....I would have eventually just bought the metrics as I already had SAE flare crows feet.
 
Those seem like an art form to make and still have needed strength …

On the down side … you can't mention tools like these if you interviewed at that shop in Florida …
