New tool thread

Works great, just waiting on a 6oz retainer ordered separately

No pictures but today I bought a brand new never used automotive Pico 4225a Pico scope with some extra accessories off of FB Market place. I have always wanted a Pico scope but didn't want to spend the money for one. Granted this is the 2 channel version rather than the 4 channel one but it will do what I need it to do. I have another 4 channel one that is not as good as a Pico scope if I need more than two channels. I saved over $500 buying this one with what it came with. Now to learn how to use the Pico software.
This is the one I got with a few other accessories included.

Because of some goofy issues with my Suburban last weekend I got a Quinn spark plug socket assortment and a noid light kit from HF.
Also got a magnetic spark plug socket from Amazon.
I needed a plug socket and couldn't find my Snap On. After the work was done, it turned up. I realized I like the new magnetic one way better than the old Snap On with the rubber in it.

My closest HF (an hour away) finally got more ICON 1/2" digi angle TWs in stock.

My first one -- very lightly used, never dropped, always stored with care -- randomly freaked out on the third job ever and said "RECALIBRATE!!"

No amount of swapping batteries, scrolling through menus, changing dates, crying or pleading would convince it otherwise.

So yeah, my new tool is a warranty replacement ICON TW. Not sure if calibration issues are supposed to be covered, but they didn't ask and I don't feel bad.

I no longer trust the thing and bought a Matco backup at pawn for $300 (which, ironically, seems to use the exact same UI). At least the Matco is the big daddy that goes to 300#

I know we've got some HF ICON fan bois (@Trav cough cough) but in order for their LT warranty to be spectacular you've gotta
1) be close to a store, and
2) they have to actually have the item in stock, which has been a REAL YUUUGE issue with their digi TW stuff.

I know my experience is N=1, but when you're that one, it's difficult to shake the experience. I should have just bought a TechAngle instead of now feeling I need to have two 1/2" digis in case the first goes down.

Finally, just a small tip on HF warranty: I had purchased initially at $350 (coupon, maybe?) but yesterday's price was $380. The register tries to charge the difference, but if you have a clueless cashier as I did, ask for a mgr who will override to the original purchase price. You obviously shouldn't pay anything on a warranty swap.

I buy tools often, and keep forgetting to post here…

Got a Milawaukee 3/8 angle impact M12. Haven’t used it yet, but excited to try it on those hard to reach areas. I take the claim of “220 fit lbs of nut-busting torque” with a huge grain of salt.

I also got a Makita 18V random orbit sander for the shop - really useful, powerful and the 8 hole dust extraction through the pad works well, and I already have about 30 of those batteries, so, an easy addition.

For home, I got tired of wrestling sheet goods across the table saw - so, I got a Makita 36V track saw. Again, lots of those 18V Nakita batteries (and it uses two) and the track to saw fit is smooth and precise. Now, I can move the saw around and not the big heavy sheets of Plywood. The guides are very stiff extruded aluminum. I bought two 55” guides and a joining kit. They make a 118” guide, but having a 10 foot piece of extruded aluminum is awkward for both storage and handling. I can use the 55” for crosscuts on sheet goods, and in many cases for all the cuts.

The guide rail has a replaceable edge, so that if it wears, it can be replaced, and that edge minimizes tear out. The saw is very well made, with precise and accurate plunge depth control (again, tear out is minimized with the proper depth) and precise, accurate angle settings.

I like most Icon hand tools but not all, the swivel impacts are not good and I would not buy a digi TW either. I have PI, Norbar, Stahlwille digi (nothing comes close to a Stahlwille Sensotork). I like a few of the Hercules tools also but again not all and even like the Pittsburg composite ratchets but no Bauer, Warrior and most other things HF sells. I guess I am not the HF fan you think, if its a good tool I couldn't care less who makes it, where its made or what it cost, if its good its good and if it is crap it is crap.

That being said If it is anything electronic it can fail in a very short time no matter who makes it, I had a brand new expensive made in Japan Fujitsu laptop fail after a few hours of use, the replacement is still in use for other things 10 years later.
I bought this one in Germany from Hoffmann in 1/2 drive for much less than this price. It too could suffer crib death (it didn't), nothing is exempt.

Edit: You can buy different heads for this TW, ratchet, open end, box.

Got a Lang caliper spreader for the Tundra. I don't know how soon I'll need it, but with the 2 pair of opposing pistons, I will eventually need something.
I bought this exact pair of Lang Caliper tool off of Amazon. The box that mine came in said "Made in the USA" but it had an additional sticker on it that said "Made in China" I contacted Lang and asked about this and they said that this product is USA made. They had me send them the Amazon tool and they determined it was a fake and sent me one from them as well as some pry bars for my trouble.

I'm partial to the "caulk gun" style spreaders anymore because they're one-handed and lightning fast.

I got the Snappy BTCP2SA but they're not cheap. Watch for used on ebay. Definitely one of my favorite tools during brake jobs.

I like that style as well. I have the Lisle versions that have worked well so far. I saw a new Snap-On pair on Ebay and at $300, they sure are expensive. No used ones right now.

It sounds like Amazon is getting as sketchy as flebay. Not good as they put so many mom and pop stores out of business leaving fewer and fewer alternatives..

Unfortunately, I think Amazon has its share of fake products, especially automotive tools and parts. I buy a lot of stuff from them but some things like electrical automotive parts I tend not to buy there.
