New tool thread

Been a couple weeks since any new tools arrived. I impulse bought some Tsunoda duckbill pliers. They are just so absurdly good for such a low price.

Before that it was an assortment of KoKen T-handles. Before that, probably some Wright impact sockets. I'm far enough along in my tool journey that I rarely need to buy anything. I consider sort of a small defeat to not already have something.

I treated myself to a new tool. A Jack Tech SK3500. Going to be doing several strut assemblies in the near future. The last time I did them I used the sketchy two-piece strut compressors, and I was nervous the entire time.

I've been looking for one for a while.

If you have luck like me....You won't find one for a good price 'til you settle for a different vise to fill the need.

When I opened my shop in 2019, I needed all kinds of shop equipment vices being one of them....Everything used was either worn out or overpriced so I ended up buying 2 new 6.5" Wilton Tradesman vices at $500 a piece (last of the USA made ones)

The Tradesman vices have been great BTW.

I live in Wilton, and I only learned about Wilton vises when I saw that there are usually at least a few of them in my local craigslist ads every time I look.

Could be an East Coast thing, or the fact the the Tri-State area has a lot of stuff to sell all the time.
Prices have a diffeing amount of zeroes from $50 though 😊

Icon 3/8" semi-deep metric sockets. Was helping my son replace the motor mounts on his Infiniti G37 instead of paying the $1600 to a shop that the book calls for on this job. We needed 3 extensions (one 1/4" for better clearance), a couple of 1/4 to 3/8 adapters, a universal joint and a 14mm semi-deep. I hate buying anything at HF at full price, but $40 isn't too burdensome.

Love semi-deep sockets for 3/8" dr. Once you start using them, they'll become your first grab.

Of course, right after I buy the 3/8" semis, I see some Gearwrench 1/4" semis on sale for $23 for a set of 13. I guess I'm good for semi-deep now.

Took the Lang chaser out to try on the exhaust manifold holes on my 300D.

The Facebook marketplace barely used cheap Chinese one could only thread in about three turns.

The OE studs that were removed thread in the while way.

The US made Lang ones thread in fully as well.

Lang is on the left. Lesson learned. Don’t trust anything of consequence to the cheap achinese tools many folks love to buy.

Can always take one of the fasteners you're going to replace and cut a channel to make a thread chaser
Yes absolutely. I will probably do that as well…

I wanted a good set for other uses, and wanted to also verify if it was the Chinese cheap set or something else.

Obviously the cheap set is an issue.

PF rated the lang set highly. I’d agree 100%.
