New tool thread

@Sam_Julier Just curious, do you ever see yourself using the 11-14mm sockets on a 1/4" ratchet? Just seems an odd combo. Nice tools, though!!
I use them all the time. Sure, 10mm is super common, but on cars like Mercedes-Benz, 13mm is also very common, and Ive used them quite a bit... I wouldn't consider a set that didn't go to 14 or 15mm.

I just thought the chances of breaking something inside a 1/4" ratchet would be high with the "larger" sockets. I guess I'm just a worrier.

I wouldn't worry. Oftentimes I like 13mm in 1/4" drive. Sometimes I might have to break it with 3/8" but then it's easier to spin out with the overall more compact 1/4". Cluttered engine bays and under-dash for instance.

I also specifically source through 15mm in 1/4" dr. Sometimes you have to special order the 15. If I could get larger, I would, but I've never seen greater than 15mm commercially available

There's a bolt on the front of the Vortec 4200s that caused me to want 15mm in 1/4" drive -- for the p/s pump IIRC

After posting my original question, I went and looked at my 1/4" ratchet/socket set I got from ECS Tuning, and sure enough I have them up to 14mm. Probably would have never reached for that socket/ratchet combo since most of what I do is with 3/8" & 1/2". I guess if I did more serious wrenching, I'd eventually need the full range in the 1/4" set.

New daytona 3 ton under warranty. Second exchange since june 2023. First one was orange(wanted red) first exchange red(wanted orange) 3rd jack (yellow was the only one in stock). Did prefer orange but oh well. Snapon will be my next jack likely. I am having issues with the seals leaking only after 6ish months give or take.

This is too bad. I’ve had mine since 2019. Zero issues and I use it all the time. I’m definitely out of warranty for when that time comes.

You might want to do a little research, IIRC I recall reading those jacks are made for Snap On as well, the only difference is the wheels, and the name. It's worth looking into is what I'm saying here. @Trav is my go to guy with these questions.

Recently decided to source a quality 1/4" inch lb torque wrench to have all the bases covered for typical use, as I already have a 3/8 and 1/2 TW. Bought the GearWrench XP version and out-of-the-box it seemed to be a quality tool until I started looking closer. Noticed when making an adjustment there was a catch at the same spot going in either direction. Thought it'd smooth out with a bit of use, but it didn't. Then decided to take the end cap off since it's marked as being unlocked/removable and discovered metal shavings in the threads. No doubt that catch shouldn't have been passed through QC and I immediately returned. Actually contacted Apex Tool Group and they totally agreed with my decision. Was a bit disappointing as the few GW tools I've had for yrs have been top notch, maybe their quality has taken a bit of a dump. Started researching again and gladly went with Central Tool's 1/4" version and it is far better than what that GW had to offer in terms of feel, fit, finish, etc.

I have 3 of them now, one is brand new the 2 ton green aluminum and the other two are much older, one a long reach all steel and one the more common large steel on. I have had zero issues with them, no leaks or failures. They don't live and easy life, other than checking the fluid and spraying some lube on the casters if I happen to think about it they just get put back in a corner.

IMO anyone buying a Chinese made Snap on for $1100 is a few fries short of a happy meal.
