New tool thread

After many years of having my hand tool kit in a zip top Cornwell bag, I got sick of the bag and got one of those open top Hercules box/bags from HF. While transferring the tools from one to the other, I realized I have five Snap on Philips head screwdrivers and no flats. Can't even imagine how that happened. I thought of calling my brother and having him pick up a couple of screwdrivers from his Snap On guy on Monday but then I thought about Icon. I have some of that stuff and it's been good so far, so I bought a set of those. I have to say, the handles feel really good. Can't wait to put some hurt to one and see how it feels.

Paid around $30 at Amazon for this "improved" Astro tool

Lisle #42810 Pliers, for pulling fuses and panel clips. It does not make a good first impression. I need to do a little bit of grinding/filing on the tips to make this tool work better on clips. The pivot joint is too loose. I bought it at Amazon, for $18. A more appropriate price would be $9.

I've had a magnet on a moldable stick for some time and its extremely useful as I drop bolts or nuts or even tools all the time. Lately it was a tiny spring into a gear case section of a small diesel engine. My magnet stick was too big, but this small "pen sized" one from Amazon saved the day. The spring was a good 6-7 inches inside and behind the gear in the center of the photo.

Got a new DieHard 1/2 extra long ratchet. This one will be for the house. I love the ratchets. I’ve got 6 of their ratchets now. I also ordered the 1/4 drive too and it’s on back order so they will ship it as soon as it’s available. I ordered all these on Advance Auto website. The screwdriver set I got for the house as well. I need some good screwdrivers there as I broke the tips on two cheap screwdrivers this weekend. Sure these aren’t the best but the singles I’ve got have excellent tips. It was between those and the Duralast. I’m trying all these out tomorrow working on stuff. Then a single socket for my coworker since his set skipped 18 and most of his tools except his deep sockets are DieHard. Linesman pliers for work since I didn’t have any there. Then more DieHard ratchets which are really amazing. Had the DieHard ratchets been available when I started I’d have strictly got them. 90 tooth very smooth and no back drag either. I already had a few so I wanted the ones I didn’t have and I needed a bigger one for the house since I misplaced my other big Craftsman ratchet. Then two single sockets for me and a Power Torque extension also for my coworker to help him out. He is trying to get all the auto parts store brands so that’s why I got the Power Torque version. People knock me for having auto parts store tools but they have really come a long way and often the people judging have no experience with them either I’ve found.

So far no complaints with any of my DieHard tools that I already own. Sockets, wrenches, pliers and a few single screwdrivers. Now I’ve got all these new ones to tear into now too.

Needed a set of metric 1/2" drive sockets in 6 point, got these. I like that the sizes are stamped on the sockets, not printed on them. Also liked the finish. They come in a plastic trays that are designed to be linked with other trays of thier tools. $67 life time warranty. Very nice set.

DCD998B brushless hammer drill, not SDS. I have a few brushed Milwaukee drills and do not like them. This one is a beast.

Worked great making pilot holes in brick for bolts to attach lattice segments along the house, wife is growing vines.

Are the Diehard ratchets China or Taiwan origin? I looked at the AAP website but didn't see COO specified.

Warranty replacement DieHard 12mm 3/8 shallow socket. My friend had chrome peeling on his. Took it in for warranty for him. So technically not my new socket but just wanted to post about warranty. They just done like Sears would do back when they were around and took the tag off the new one and put the old one on it and gave you this one. Old socket posted below.

Is there a better version available from some other manufacturer?

I don't have any Teng but I have not heard anything negative about them. I have some of the Tone stuff and so far it is holding up well.
