New tool thread

Whats your opinion of it vs the astro 4980?

If I had to buy one today it would be the Astro 4980 or 498K both are huge bang for the money, I paid a little over $300 for the CP 717 which was okay but I would not buy it today for $550-$700.
Keep in mind the big air hammers need bigger 1/2" hoses and plenty of air at higher pressure to achieve the power the offer, the type of bits is also limited but if you need something that hits harder than Mike Tyson on crack this is the tool.

Only $117. Wow, that's a bargain. HF will have to reduce the price on their $150 Chief air hammer to compete wth that.
With these tools it is all about trigger control and the Astro seems to be excellent as is the CP717 as is the Snap on and Aircat, the Chief is a good hitter no doubt with a little less trigger finesse.

That looks so much more appealing than Fumoto.
The Fumoto design, even with the safety clip, gives me the willies. I much prefer the ValvoMax and Votex design.

I went with ValvoMax over Votex because of the drain bag and shut off valve.

A couple weeks ago I wound up down a rabbit hole on Klann compressors. I don't know why I care except that I like tools -- the odds I'll ever wrench on a vehicle (like a Mercedes) that would require such a compressor are extremely low.

Just the same I ordered an import copy on Amazon after passing up a damaged Klann on ebay. Then I wound up speaking with the ebay seller and he realized the tool was in even worse condition than he thought. I offered $25 and he accepted. This weld repair is horrific. I plan to grind it out and redo it. Also this cup has deformed where the two teeth engage:

So I have a new import and a used 'n abused real Klann. It may be an entire table of scrap metal. Curious what @Trav thinks.View attachment 188165

I feel like the distinction of West Germany speaks to age:

Also there appear to be two versions of the Klann, and this all appears to be the "lesser" or simpler model, so I don't know if any of it's likely to be useful anyway? But hey, I got to acquire some new tools so I'm happy (until a spring pops me in the face and kills me)
That Klann has seen at a minimum 35 years of what appears to be hard impact use. The barrel with not blow apart, the part that is welded is just a guide that prevents the bottom for turning and can probably be redone but with the cups in such bad shape I would question if its worth it.
I cant say about the clone, it may be okay or total rubbish, you would know by looking at the quality of the threads and the cups.

Did not read all 172 pages of goodies but 2 recent for me are:

Fuel Injector Tool
Have to replace intake manifold on the wagon, dreaded P2015 DTC. But with 3 VWs in the stable, all will have the manifold come off at some point.

Chainsaw
Cuz the battery Husky just wasn't, uh, cutting it :p.

Beer fridge? Yes. Stocked with Sierra Nevada hazy Little Thing.

Nice! Love the Echo!

I was a Milwaukee tool guy but my HF Bauer tool list just keeps growing. Since I'm just a backyard hack and don't make my living with tools it's just hard to beat the value.

My latest pickup is this $68 battery with a free tool. The blades added a few bucks but I was out the door for under 80 bucks.

I bought this 3" long 3/8" drive Nepros ratchet at Amazon-US for $68. It shipped from Amazon-Japan.

A few weeks earlier I also bought a Koken ratchet with 3/8" anvil in a 1/4" body. It cost $47 at Amazon. It is 72 tooth versus 90 tooth in the Nepros. Compared to the Koken the Nepros is 1.5" shorter, 12 gram heavier, and about 1.5mm larger in head width and thickness. The backdrag is low in the Nepros, but lower in the Koken.
