Marketplace “score”

Contractor was retiring and selling off some stuff. I think the ad read “bunch of pliers”.
Had them listed for $200CAD, I negotiated down to $150. I’ve been wanting a bigger set of cobras as I only have a 250mm.
The pic from the ad:

Well ok! A set of 300mm cobras, 3 sets of 250mm and a pliers wrench. Two cutters and a set of my favourite flush cutters, pair of linesman. Those electricians wire strippers and two pairs of Klein 1005 crimpers. It was hard to tell the condition from the pics but for the price I wasn’t concerned. I stopped at my buddy’s shop on the way home and put them in the parts washer and gave them a scrub.

Here they are when I got them home:

Some surface rust but the teeth look great:

I rigged up a container to soak them in Evaporust overnight:

Ran out of room for attachments above.

They turned out great for $150. I have a use for 90% of them too as I’m rigging up a mobile tool kit currently so great timing.

The cutters with the comfort grip have this nice message.

I’m guessing it was from a coworker as a dog for having the confort grips lol

Anyways I tried rubbing alcohol, brake clean and even acetone but it’s not coming off. Any ideas?

Just leave it. Gotta love tools that are "personalizated."

I was thinking this, too. It's part of "the story."

Eons ago I bought my first wire feed from a buddy -- a lowly Hobart 110V machine, but they're good for what they are. Anyway, he put a sticker on it (from a label-making machine) which declared "Think ***rammer"

I left it on there and among our circle of friends it was known as the Think ***rammer welder. I later sold the Think ***rammer welder to someone else in our group.

I know many users here are rolling their eyes and thinking "How juvenile" (use a Grey Poupon voice while looking down your nose), but I'll suggest it wouldn't kill some people to grow a sense of humor and a personality. You might even live longer (shrug). And remember I can always be added to your Ignore List.....

If someone ever worked construction they will understand. I used to work with a bunch of guys that would sneak up behind you and draw penises on your boots or hard hat if you were really involved in your work.

If rubbing alcohol didn't take it off it isn't coming off. Rubbing alcohol will dissolve fresh sharpie. If it has time to set on plastic it soaks in.

Color over it with fresh Sharpie like you are just censoring it. Let sit for maybe an hour. Work it over with rubbing alcohol. Hopefully new Sharpie coming off will drag old Sharpie with it. Worst case do it over and let dry and it's censored and can be anything.

Replacement oil change wrench. My last one was cursed or something, VIM tools brand. Left it in a customer's car, he was going to return it but then he lost it too. No reason to believe he was lying because there is zero chance he would use it.

Ya I like the humour and it’s something I would do lol. If it would have came off great but I don’t really care it it stays.

I stumbled on this on the clearance rack at a local O'Reilly. I already have one. I may keep it as a spare or make it a gift for a gearhead. I'd post in the Deals forum but it's no longer on their website so I'm not sure how repeatable it is.

It did scan at this price so it wasn't a one-off manager markdown. I'm guessing every O'Reilly in the country will scan at this price if they have stock.
