New tool thread

I just bought a new 1/4" drive micro ratchet.

It only cost $11.11 on Amazon and the best part is that it has a bit driver on the back side for my Torx bits. This little guy will live in the saddlebag of my motorcycle.

Some new to me vise grips. Peterson 5 inch USA made from eBay. Got these for the house. These were the only reasonably priced Peterson/Irwin USA that I could find. Everyone wants outrageous prices for them. I have the Bremen version at work which is pretty good but these are better but the Bremen would of been my next choice had these not been available.

Here's a Metabo HPT (some sort of private equity owned amalgamation of Germany's Metabo and Hitachi) pin nailer, purchased for putting up trim in a house my brothers and I inherited and are sort of flipping. Pretty nice little tool, using it with a Bostitch pancake compressor. Complements the 16 and 18 gauge nailers that came with that compressor well. Really great for small cabinet trims and holding stuff in place until the glue sets.

Bought these at Amazon for $40. I spent extra ( around $10) for "made in the USA" but I"m not sure I received any benefit from doing that. Are these made of higher quality steel than the "made in China" versions? I hope so, but I don't know so. I don't like that the handles are missing chamfering on the "corners" (but they are deburred).

That's a bummer. My Chicom ABN's look to have a chamfer as a part of the casting process. They are quite smooth to the bare hand and don't feel sharp or harsh, but I'm always wearing goatskin MIG gloves when using a tool like this.

As for metallurgy, we can only hope yours are consistent because Chinese steel can be great one day and pot metal the next.

@Trav strikes again. We've spoken about this ratchet before, it's one of his favorites. I saw it new on Ebay for $30 and grabbed it.
Williams S-52. I haven't used it yet, but I will once I finish up a few more projects around the house.

Is there a new version of the 3/8th? I need to upgrade. My Craftsman's are about as smooth as sewing machine.

Snap-on Monday today. Snap-on PWZ0OA not sure the proper name but I know they work well for alignments and it’s orange so that is a plus. Hose pinch pliers needed those because I don’t have any. Irwin 6 inch needle nose vise grips for the house. Mini side cutters. And a free battery pack. At least they say it’s free LOL.

The holes from the little 23 guage pins (as opposed to nails, they don't have heads) are very very small. In a natural wood material they're somewhere between invisible and nearly invisible. In a painted wood they're real tiny, nothing a wax filler stick won't cover up. I paid $80 for it. The Harbor Freight version was $47 at the time, not enough of a discount for me. I usually only go HF if it's 1/4-1/3 the price of a "real" brand, or if it's something I'll use only a time or two or very infrequently. Toe kick saw for example.

My brother offered to help replace the slave cylinder in my 88 E-150. While we're in there the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, TOB, pilot bearing, RMS and front transmission seal will be done. I ordered this to help with the seal installation. I'm hoping this isn't too big of a PITA job to do. I did the slave cylinder and clutch about 30 years ago when the slave cylinder failed, but being 30 years older is not a plus.

All the parts are on hand with the exception of a crankshaft repair sleeve in the event the RMS is grooved, and a Rubber RMS. I have a Teflon RMS but want all bases covered since I don't know what kind of RMS is in there, and if it is grooved or not. Thanks @Trav for the recommendation to have those extra parts. Sourcing them local when the van is in pieces is not something I want to be scrambling to do once I'm in there. I might give Maxlife a shot in the M5OD transmission, more homework is needed.
