New tool thread

Another $40 Pawn shop Hart 1/4 Hex impact with 1.5 battery to add into the collection of Hart tools, and I impulse bought the 12 inch hex extension for $10 at Walmart, it was the last one in stock and I though if I ever needed it I going to be happy I spent that $10. I did buy the plastic tubs for sorting/storing as I was about 1 layer away from getting to hoarder status...

Hart Tools sent me this vacuum just I don’t have a battery for it so I guess I’ll have to buy a battery to try it out. But I appreciate they reached out wanting me try their stuff.

Link back to my previous Hart tool post, should have mentioned it before but both these came with chargers too, and being you frequent the pawn shop you'll probably see a deal on a similar example soon. But your vacuum reminds me of my Ryobi 1/4 hex impact find also pictured at link, the battery cost persuaded me to just get the Hart hex impact with the battery, I can now wait it out to find a good deal on a Ryobi battery or gift it out and keep with the Hart line up of tools.

It’s that time of the week again. Snap-on brass hammer they call it bronze but I’m sure it’s probably close to the same thing. Long skinny needle nose pliers, and two 1/2 impact sockets a 12 and 14mm. I’m sure everything here will come in handy I’ve needed a brass hammer a few times and didn’t have one.

If you stopped buying tools you could pay my mortgage for me. :ROFLMAO:
Mechanics never stop buying tools lol. I’m the type where I’m at the door waiting for the truck to show up and no one will get in my path or there will be a problem. I love tools as you can tell. We just got a Mac Truck at work too so I’ll be seeing what he has to offer hopefully he is better than the other two Mac guys.

Wanted to be able to remove and reuse click clamps. So bought the nice tool.

Nice! After using them, can you post a review of how well they worked?

When I needed similar a few years ago, there were no good reviews for those Knipex. Instead, I bought Facom DM.CC that work fairly well. Seemed high at $50, but I was able to not trash the clic clamps.

Just avoid debt! In addition to our lessons on sugar, pay attention to not being in constant debt.

The Snap on guy has you hooked. Make a list of what you need not what you want, you go on those truck you want it all. Save your cash for tools then when you have a few hundred shop for what you need, you will be surprised at how careful you shop for other like quality brands of the needed tools when you have to part with the cash and not on the never never.

I knew guys that couldn't get married never mind have kids because they owed so much money to the tool trucks, think about what will happen if you end up unemployed for some reason if if it has nothing to do with you eg dealership going under. Hey its you money but watch yourself and save your money, bad times are coming.

Sound advice.

Beyond a mortgage and maybe a genuinely needed vehicle, if you can't pay cash, you can't afford it.

JMO, you certainly don't have to agree. Take it from someone who made many financial mistakes when he was young. Me.

Yeah I am guilty. They call me the tool guy at work because if no one else has it chances are I do. He has been trying to sell me a box but I am able to resist that I’m not doing that to myself. I will say this though after they told me they can’t rebuild my impact because it’s too old instead of paying $330 for the new version of it I bought an Aircat instead because my boss has it and I love it. I got mad they couldn’t rebuild an impact it maybe 22 years old but it should be rebuildable. They are supposed to have great service after all. Hopefully the replacement will be in soon I’m waiting on it to be restocked so they will ship it. Paid for that out of pocket.

I have nothing against other brands at all. I just love tools and when I get on the truck I’m hooked. I had planned on skipping yesterday but I could not do it. Good thing I can use the sockets. I used the 14mm today. I do appreciate the advice and will take it for sure. I might end up paying all $827 that I owe next week. At least I got myself out of the $1500 hole I was in by making a large payment two weeks ago. I do plan on getting some things that Snap-on offers from different brands like the Lisle brake caliper gun type compressor and the Lang ratcheting one. Snap-on has both but no way I’m paying truck prices for them. And eventually I’ll get the spindle rethreading set from Lang as well. I see them on the truck every week and say nope not doing that I can get it other places.

If I were a grad student working towards a PhD in psychology I would be researching tool truck addiction. ;)
Given the options it is an unbelievably expensive way to purchase tools!

My local mechanic and long time friend has started providing tools for his new hires. The incentive is working.

See if you can stop for a couple weeks then a couple months. The urge goes away. It's really no different in principle than wanting to, having to, go to this site every day. Except buying tools uses up your money. Some of the richest people in the world are rich because of people's addictions to buying, internet groups, social media etc. You had a good run and some fun, test yourself if you are in charge. If you don't mind a little advice from experience.

Yeah our shop where I worked used to buy cheap drill bits and I told the boss buy good bits having to use 4 drill bits to finish a hole is getting old. The boss say you guys will steal them. I said we steal the cheap one as well but we steal 4 because that is what it talks to drill a hole. The company started to buy the good bits and the owner of the company told me to write off the parts I take home on the rental department work orders.
