New tool thread

I have at least six $10-15 vise grips, plus a Malco, probably more as it’s sort of ridiculous to advertise how many. Instead I could have one $75 pair of Snap On. Is it a Malco clone? Yes, but is the extra going to mean anything? Not really and if it breaks the tool truck guy hands you a new one. Not a bad system for a working person on the job. I just bought another yesterday on Amazon, a Craftsman 10 inch straight jaw.

I like those, if they were 12pt, I'd be in for a set.
I went back and forth over 6pt vs 12pt. The 240s are pretty open, not many tight spaces, so I went with 6pt.

If I regret it I’ll get a set of the Stahlwille or Williams.

Better yet , what if they make Snap-On underwear. Wouldn't that be interesting?
LOL they would probably rebrand the stuff from Duluth and mark it up to $75 per pair.

Bought an 8oz ball peen hammer today. It was $8.99 with my moms military discount. I needed the 8oz to complete my set now I just need a 12oz ball peen which I’ll get eventually it’s not a total need right now though it would come in handy. Appears pretty well made. Says made in Vietnam I figured it would of been China but either way feels quality to me.

Then I ordered this ratchet as well. Wanted to get it at the store but they were completely sold out at both locations here. I read all reviews and asked people who had it and they all liked it so I went ahead and got it. Was looking for more M18 batteries for my gun but they were all out and we missed all the really good deals because I had to work. I will post real life pictures of the ratchet when it arrives I am super excited. Says it will be here by December 3rd. Had to order tonight to get the discount price I think so I did. I love Black Friday deals.
I like Vaughan hammers. I have their ball peen ones in different sizes and theyve all been great. Their heavy framin hammer is also great. USA made. They have a whole range from light to heavy for decent prices.

Pretty sure most here in “tools” knows that Malco made it. They put a different name on it though.
From Websters:

“Examples of clone in a Sentence

Noun
the car is a clone under a different brand name—it's even manufactured in the same plant as its cousin”

They are nice hammers for sure. I like them and Estwing too which I believe at least some are USA made from them. My main reason for going with these is my old school side cause I like wood handles, of course that’s all a matter of preference. The fiberglass Snap-on hammer I have is nice just the plastic gets torn up well. I see these hammers a lot at I think it’s Lowes that has a wide selection of the Vaughn they feel really nice.

All my Vaughan framing and ball peen hammers have hickory handles…

That is one example but we all know when you buy scan tool for example that is claimed to be a clone it is generally it is a knockoff.
Tools that are clones are in almost every case a knockoff and generally not the same quality of the original.

Most of this type of wrench are made in Taiwan which is not an issue, the quality of brand name ones is not bad. Myself I prefer locking flex heads, 12pt, reversible is not a priority and rare in the locking type.
I have not tried these and have no idea about the quality but for $60 they may be worthwhile.

My bad I got confused. I’m thinking of picking up a rubber mallet from them cause I need a good one to have at work. Might pick up another ball peen too since 16 ounce is my most used I’ve done been through 3 lol. All the ones I’ve used get rough on the hitting surface after just a couple uses.

I had to return one California framing hammer. I have other Vaughan that are perfect. I suspect it was the times, getting people to come to work, new trainees, etc. Someone actually put wood filler over the wedges to hide the cracks they made, and wood filler was on the side of the head, hardened like rock. The nail magnet was half into the hammer head and half where it should be. The grinding on the head was like someone’s first time doing it. Came from Home Depot stock.

That is someone else’s use of clone. My use of clone was fine as I proved. I even doubted myself and looked it up, shouldn’t have. If you also had checked, you wouldn't have had to criticize the use of the word. Or just lighten up a little on words is another option. As long as it is understood this is the end goal of communicating.

I got the heavier Vaughan one with one side white and the other side black from Lowes. Good wood handle, metal head that the rubber heads connect to is nice and heavy... Highly recommend. Available at Lowes.
