New tool thread

That's my point, some shops will stick that drain plug back in, call it a day and it becomes the "next guy's problem." That seems to be the new norm. My buddy is $1350 into a hacks attempt at repairing his AC. Two compressors and a condenser, no leaks and it's still blowing hot. This is after diagnostics and the mechanic stating it's not the blend door, or relay. lol Tomorrow it is going back for some additional troubleshooting. I'm not going to get into the what should have been done, I'm only bringing up the fact that the industry is loaded with hacks unfortunately. They give good mechanics a bad name and reputation.
Yep. I enjoy my job and take pride in it so I don’t do things wrong on purpose. I want to have the right tool for the job. The right tool is important and if I have to buy it then it’s an excuse for more tools. 🙂

Seriously, do you really need an excuse to buy more tools? :)
Only since my mom is on my bank account till I’m 24 lol. I have to get approval first. It’s the account policy since I’ve had the account since before I was 18. Luckily tomorrow the Snap-on man comes to work and I’ve gotten approval to buy what I need but I might buy a few other things that I don’t too lol. I have the money to pay for it all. Hopefully he shows up this week he didn’t the last two.

If you are over 18, go open your own account. You don't need someone approving your finances till you are 24 years old. Unless you just want that.
Take care of your own finances, you make some mistakes but that's how you learn.
Better to make mistakes now and learn rather than making them when you are in your 30's.

Ok AutoMechanic has officially made his first tool truck purchase at his new job. I’ve made them before but not at this job. He knocked these down about $45 each so I didn’t pay full price for them. And I don’t have a credit account, I’ve got a truck account so no interest. I needed both things especially the ratchet. And I’m tired of cheap pliers bending so I upgraded. All he had was the long set so I will buy the regular size eventually but I feel these long handles can come in handy. This ratchet has my favorite handle on it. It was the only color he had right now and my coworker is jealous because it matches his box lol. He knocked off the price of the handle basically because regularly it goes for $143 and I got it for $99 because the one with no handle costs $99. Plus $5 tax. So I’m in debt about $200 or so maybe a little more 😁. I will pay it off before I buy anything else. The Snap-on man is really friendly so I’m happy we have a good rep.

I think you'll like those Snap-on pliers. I have the regular handle version of the long nose, and they are by far my favorite. And they are tough.

Nice haul.

That’s good to hear. I used them today after I bought them and they feel really good. Just have to get broken in because they are a bit stiff but that’s normal. The ratchet is great too. I really like the handle.

You will get more than your money’s worth as you are young. Those tools have a road ahead of them. SO will lose money.

Ratchets are one of those things that I feel Snap On really does better than the competition. Let us know how you like it!
Love it so far. Used it on a few things today. My coworker (the very annoying new one) who trash talked me for buying it was first to run over and grab it out of my box I told him nope your not using it. I made up the excuse that I have to be the first one to use it lol. He has worn out his borrowing because he doesn’t have a toolbox. He made the remark that I could go to Lowe’s and get the same thing for $40. I don’t even worry about what he says. It feels very fine in the teeth even though I think it’s a 72 tooth.

So they hired a mechanic with no tools and he is helping himself to yours? I will let you imagine what my reaction to that would be.
You better set some ground rules up right now, the occasional loan of a tool between co workers is fine especially if its an oddball but never let something like what is happening to you go on.
You make a living with those tools and work hard to own them treat them as such.

I bought these push pin and panel clip pliers to replace the bumper cover on my 2012 Colorado. The push pin pliers worked well when pulling out the inner pin. The panel clip pliers were needed to remove the rest of the clip. Contrary to videos I watched before making the purchase, I found the panel clip pliers more useful, at least in my situation, since you can use it to remove both parts of the clip.

Urrea wrench set from Home Depot. 10-19 mm with roll case. Was about $42 I think. Made in Mexico from USA micro alloy steel they say. Can’t complain about that. They were Proto Mexico once, bought out by Urrea. The open end has a catch the flats geometry. Can always easily take back to H D if I change my mind. Can’t have too many….
