New tool thread

I got to say I am content with the new tool setup.

While doing brake pads and rotor replacements on our daughter's CR-V on Sunday, I learned the hard way my old set of metric combination wrenches skipped a few sizes, including the 17mm. This led me to ask BITOG for suggestions and ended up getting the Astro Tools 12-piece super-thin, ratcheting combination wrenches (8mm-19mm no skips).

I thought I had a set of 1/2" drive metric impact sockets, but all my sets were SAE. I was able to use a 3/8" drive set I had with metric sizes and a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter. Getting ready to replace the quick-struts on the CR-V, I took the opportunity to buy a set of Astro Pneumatic Tools 1/2" drive, metric, swivel impact sockets. It has a few skips at the upper end, but none of the sizes I will be needing for the struts... I hope.

Home Depot had a Daily Deal on a 5-Piece, Milwaukee Torque Lock Locking Pliers Set, so ordered these, also.

I've had the fully-functioning Craftsman aluminum jack for 20 years or so.

I've now seen a couple SMA vids with this Depstech borescope and decided to get one.

Depstech offers too many models IMO, with a poor ability to compare features side-by-side on their website.

According to one of the links Eric provided on his vid, this DS630 is what he uses. At the time of ordering it was kind of difficult to find without a direct link, and at ~$130 was a bit more expensive than several other models around $90‐$100 that were more likely to pop up.

Also higher (model) numbers don't necessarily seem to mean more features, which I found to be a bit like Jaguar's deliberately random model identifiers.

I used it a little today and the clarity/resolution is amazing AFAIC. I like the prospect of dropping into a cylinder and then turning 180 to look back up at the valves, which is how Eric often uses it.

Mr Wiggles! lol

I picked one up too. Great tool to have around.

Not really a tool, but a very good deal today at HF. I bought this box of 7 mil gloves today. Regular price was $13.99, they were 40% off during their Spring Black Friday Sale. The sale price was $8.41, a lot cheaper than any other place I have seen. The sale ends on Monday.
I'll see your 7mil and raise you by 2. Disposable gloves are like flashlights... you can never have enough. I bought this box yesterday morning, having two more unopened 9mil from the previous sidewalk sale. I'm currently working my way through a box of 7mil, but about to change the struts and front axles on my daughter's 2009 CR-V, so probably should open a box of these to use during that bit of fun.

Speaking of never having enough flashlights, HF's Braun flashlights are still 40% off through today (or tomorrow). I only bought three this time, including two rechargeable, 750 lumen spotlights with magnetic base. I've already fallen in love with these! Now I'm thinking I'll got back today and get some more flashlights. They have a 2100 lumen spotlight I thought about getting. It's the bigger cousin to the 750 lumen. Just checked, and they open at 9am. 😬

I buy gloves from them all the time when they have them on sale, the 5MIL, 7MIL, and the 9MIL. Tough to beat the price.

After seeing Eric O reco these I set up a search on ebay. Got these from a pawn seller for $100 even.

I'm a huge advocate of indexable pry bars so it only makes sense for trim tools, tooView attachment 333068
Those are nice. I've not seen that set before. I have the SK indexing trim tool that Eric O loves. It took me a while to find it and it wasn't cheap. They are around $100 now if you can find one.

I need some of these, but I have been holding off. Harbor Freight opened a new store 2 miles from my house last month, and since I have bad impulse control when shopping at any HF store, I haven't been yet. I know, I'll make my wife go with me next time, so she'll give me the stink eye before I can load the cart with a bunch of tools I'll never use.

Ya know maybe it was SK he mentioned and I then ran into these. I tried to find whatever Chinese manufacturer likely makes them for Matco, ie an equivalent or copy on alibaba or Temu or Amazon or ebay, but came up empty.

That said, a used price of $100 for the set of four isn't atrocious. I think Matco's retail is more around $170 for the set, which felt high to me.
