New to me High Mileage Jeep

M1 0W-40 is a fine oil but I also don't see anything wrong with staying with the factory viscosity in the High Mileage flavor. I have had good luck with Maxlife and Supertech High Mileage oils in other Jeeps (2.5/4.0L's and 134F head) and trail machines.

I'd probably be more concerned if it has a Dana30 front axle with 37's.

No Notice of Burning oil yet. I Changed out my PCV valve and changed my oil to 5w-30 Full Synthetic HM with a Fram Ultra Filter and added the Blue Devil Rear Main Sealer. I wiped everything down real good to see how it does. It's raining here now, so I can't see the oil drops very well. Going to pull it in the Shop overnight and see if it's slowed down any.

I hear ya there. Not going to dump much money into the D30. Trusses and ball joint delete is all its getting. The rear 44 locked will still make it a decent on the trails. If I get lucky and score a Jk 44 front. I switch. If not D60's will go in.

It's been about 2 days (60miles) after Changing the PCV valve and going to ST 5w-30 HM with Blue Devil Sealer. The leak as slowed way down. Didn't drip on the ground yesterday. I could see a tiny bit on the housing.

The 3.8L doesn't care what is in it, it will drink all of it. 🤣 I would use 5w30 and just keep it topped off.

Pretty much. Viscosity, brand, style, line etc. doesn’t do a dang thing. Mom and dads 2009 JK Rubi had 40k on it when they traded it in. I tried various oils with identical results.1 quart per 1000 miles or so towards the end.

Was definitely a fun Jeep though. Had the top off many times, took it to proms and such. She’s greatly missed.

Can’t remember the factory OCI, but one could easily do 7.5-10k OCI’s as long as it’s kept topped off. I’d venture to say 15-20k with a UOA though.

There has been plenty said on motor oil - and just about to comment on gear oil when I saw this …

From the way this Jeeps been maintain and the fact it has brand new Diff Covers on it. The Gear oil is pretty fresh. As for the Dana30. Not much I can do with that right now. I have a Balljoint Delete system coming. And I will add Trusses. Other then that. It's going to stay open with stock shafts. If I can score a used JK44 thats not overpriced, Ill do that. but for what many want for one I can do 1tons. This is a Daily Driver with easy trail rides. Nothing to technical or extreme. I'm betting it will be fine. I ran TSL SX's (heavy) 36s on my YJ Dana30 with a 4.3L Vortec and wheeled it hard. Never broke. I did upgrade to a 44 front eventually when I went to 38's. but this Jeep here isn't going to see that kind of action.

That's a clean, Cool rig except for the angry eye thing. LOL
You know what you're doing. The 30 will be fine and I'd still wheel the heck out of it too.
Keep it open and buy a couple of cheap spare shafts from people who swap out the 30.

Trail Time > Wrench Time

Well Jeep is at 178k now. Still running great. Swapped in a built set of Newer Rubicon axles. I added sleeves, C-Gussets, LCA Skids, 5.38 gears and Balljoint deletes. Jeep as a Tick at cold start ups for a few seconds. But other then that, runs good. Been running 10w-30 Synthetic HM. Still doesn't burn any oil.
