New to me 2014 mercedes benz e63 amg s

I have most of the fluids ready to change: Engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, differential . Still trying to figure out transmission. Amg speedshift 7 speed mct with a wet clutch. What would you use? Any other fluid suggestions appreciated. And would you service the intercooler too?

I believe it's 236.15 which is ATF 134 FE, the blue fluid. Post the vin and we'll run it through EPC. Or you can just pick up a knock off copy of the EPC/WIS on eBay for under $10.

Normally I'd just say go with the Shell ATF 134 FE, can be had at a local Shell distributor, probably around $60-$80 for the case of 12 quarts but with the AMG, you could go with the brand name OEM fluid, probably more like $20+ a quart. I don't think there are too many other approved fluids out there that can be readily found.

I think they've come down in price, they start at 35-40k. They're better than the older models, I think the 2007-2011 models had bad head bolts so when they blew, you'd need a new engine which was about 25k, even used was about 10k, but you could just replace the head bolts in advance for around 1k.

Well, it's probably not red. Probably blue. And can you use gold. This is what the internet says. I take delivery next week. It was one third of msrp so... I wanted something faster than my other cars.

Not sure what you mean by gold. Normally you just run it through EPC, tells you exactly what is needed based on the vin. You can just call up your local dealer and they will ask you for the vin and then tell you what the fluid is and the cost. I think on the W212, it's basically just 236.15, some early models used 236.14, but that was 2010/2011 models.
 
Looks like Shell also makes a fluid that meets MB 236.17. But it says don't use it in transmissions that require 236.14 or 236.15. But you can try and call your local shell distributor and see if they carry it. I would just stick to the fluids listed in the 236.15 sheets.

You have the 7 speed transmission and the A89 code so I believe you're using 236.15. Nice options. Too bad you don't have the driver assistance package.

You would have been in for a ride had it just been a run-of-the-mill used MB with that many miles on it. If you're really buying a car that's already been messed with and blown up once, I'd say you're in for a heartbreak.

Used high-end MB's aren't for the faint of heart or the shallow pocketed among us. It takes bucks to start fixing those things when they break, and they are going to break. I wish you the best of luck.

Exactly, had a 2015 GLA250, the dealer had to fix/replace the tranny twice before 30k miles. I’m lucky I’ve opted in for an extended warranty when I bought it, but it was a relief recently to get rid of it. I’m just scared to even think of possible repair bills on AMGs, since it was thousands for my base GLA
 
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PURCHASE!! Don't let anybody scare you with the cost of ownership. It is only expensive if you use the dealer or a hi priced independent. I currently service a few nice older mercedes (2010 CLS550, 2011 CLS63 AMG and a 2013 CLS550 are the "best ones" I see) and they have not been bad at all. I did a suspension air compressor on the 2010 CLS550 and it was $260 off rockauto and 30 minutes to do - I only charged 360 for the job vs nearly 1500 at the dealer. The CLS63 AMG needed an air strut - rockauto and an hour time and my price was still under 650. The CLS63 is now in my shop for a power steering leak at the rack - a $3 o-ring and fixed. The 2013 CLS550 needed a ride height sensor for $100 online and 30 minutes between installing and using my scan tool to relearn. See where I am going??? If you do your own work any "prestige" car is ok to own - if you have to depend on the dealership - then yeah maybe pass or get a warranty. One other note - the 2010 and 2011 cars each have over 140k miles and I have serviced them since out of warranty and nothing major other than what was mentioned above, These are really solid cars. I cannot say the same for the smaller C class cars and the SUV's - they have all been troublesome. I have a 2013 C250 in the shop also for a new motor - it always used oil and the girl failed to keep an eye out on the oil so she locked it up. A used motor is still around 4000 so it sits while she saves up her money. The dealership wanted 11k for the job....

Of that you are correct, my information comes from the service manager at one of the South's biggest MB dealers and a very close friend. If he says to avoid, I do without question, not that I'd want one in the first place. I don't have need of something like that, I'll stick with my more plebian cars/trucks.

The real problem is taking the car to the MB dealer when it's out of warranty. The E63s are extra expensive over the regular E350 and maintenance on an E350 isn't cheap at the dealer either. I have two E-350s and I only take them to the dealer for warranty work or firmware updates. The price of the brakes really go up as you get into more expensive models. The E550/E63 also had airmatic as an option and that's expensive to fix although there are aftermarket options that are cheaper. Unlike regular springs/struts, when airmatic fails, it's sitting on the ground and you can't drive it, looks like you super lowered it. Also while some parts are common to other models, some items like the shifter is specific to just the E63 so aftermarket parts options can be limited.

I've been temped to get an E550/E63, but there's so much traffic here, it's kind of a waste if you're creeping along in traffic average 16mph. And it looks like it's 90% back to pre-pandemic levels.

none of the 5.5 e63s have front air. use the 1 piece c63 rotors to save cash.

Interesting. The E550's had airmatic at all 4 corners, didn't realize the E63 only had them in the rear. Real MB E63 rotors list for $1200, about $900 mail order, there are aftermarket ones in the $400 range. The oem pads list for $350, mail order $255. Lots of aftermarket options in the $150 range. Good thing he doesn't have the carbon ceramic braking system, that was an 8k option.

FCPeuro sells them so at least you only have to buy them once with their lifetime warranty on all the parts they sell.
